There’s heavy duty cleaning going on at the Mitchell Indoor Aquatic Center during its forced closure due to COVID-19.
Park and Recreation Director Nathan Powell says crews have drained the leisure pool thus far. “A basic acid-wash that you would normally do every couple of years,” said Powell. “We’ve had the pool open for two years and it’s a good time to do that.”
The pool has had rust colored stains since it opened. “We tried a few things to remove the stain without removing the water,” Powell said. “It just didn’t work.”
Powell says it took three days to drain the pool and staff cleaned as the water level dropped. The water went into the storm drains.
He says there’s also a lot of painting going on throughout the entire Rec. Center in anticipation of its eventual re-opening.
