Davison County Commissioners were briefed on a Jail Needs Assessment Study for the current facility during Tuesday’s meeting.
Jail Consultant Bill Garnos prepared and presented detailed data. “The purpose of this work was to try to provide an objective and independent assessment of your inmate population trends,” said Garnos. “It provides transparency, documentation. You’ve got really good data on your inmate population trends so it gives you a data-driven way to try to assess your capacity needs and future needs.”
Garnos spent Monday touring the jail. “You’ve got cells, you’ve got day rooms, you’ve got an exercise area, you’ve got booking,” Garnos said. “There’s challenges in all of them, but I work with a lot of facilities that would give anything to have yours. You have a drive-thru Sally Port, you know, all of those are things you will not see in other facilities this size.”
Garnos expects to have his final report ready in about a month.
