A juvenile is in custody following a stabbing incident at the Hitchcock Park basketball court Wednesday evening.
According to the Mitchell Police Department, Officers were dispatched to the Hitchcock Park basketball courts for a report of a male that had been stabbed in the chest. When Officers arrived on the scene, they quickly identified the victim and suspect. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Witnesses on the scene advised the altercation between the victim and suspect occurred due to an argument that occurred during a game of basketball.
The male victim of the stabbing was identified as 25-year-old Kyle Foote. He received medical attention from Mitchell EMS on the scene and shortly after was transported to Avera Queen of Peace for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect in this case was a juvenile who was detained, and is in custody with Juvenile Department of Corrections.
The Mitchell Police Department is thankful that there was no loss of life during this incident. Assisting the Mitchell Police Department with responding to this call was the South Dakota Highway Patrol and Davison County Sheriff’s Office.
