- The City of Mitchell will begin accepting applications for subsidy funding for 2026 on July 1, 2026. Organizations who are seeking subsidy funds from the City of Mitchell are required to complete the online application to be considered for funding. Completed applications must be received before July 31, 2026 at 5pm.
- Law enforcement agencies at all levels in South Dakota have taken down four major drug distribution rings in the last year. 54 defendants have been prosecuted with sentences racking up more than six centuries of combined time in prison. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says it’s the result of weariness and determination to stop them.
- During the recent Governor’s Agricultural Summit in Pierre, Governor Larry Rhoden said the state is “doubling down” on supporting value-added agriculture. He says the support shows in different businesses that have come here or expanded here in the past year. Rhoden says ethanol is an area of value-added agriculture where South Dakota is doing well.
- The Meade County Commission recently approved first-reading of an ordinance to introduce a local sales tax to help lower property taxes for residents. It follows a new state law which allows counties to levy a local sales tax of up to a half-cent used to provide owner-occupied tax credits against the county portion of the property tax bill.
- A woman from Pierre has made it to the semifinals of a national art competition. Arielle Kiepke says she now has until Thursday to get her into the finals of the Johnny Depp presents “The People’s Artist” competition Kiepke “grew up doing art” and was looking for opportunities to share her art with others when she came across the contest.
