Lake Mitchell declared “No Wake Zone” by GF&P

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department, has declared Lake Mitchell a “No Wake Zone”.  Mayor Bob Everson requested it. “I got some calls from residents around the lake,” said Everson. “The waters had risen up to the point where they were in their yards and I checked with Game, Fish and Parks to find out what the procedure is for doing no wake.”

GF&P rules state the waters of Lake Mitchell become a “no wake zone” during any time the water level in Lake Mitchell reaches the height of 12 inches or more over the level of the top of the spillway. City officials confirmed the lake height on Thursday and the “no wake zone” shall remain in effect until such time as the water level of the lake drops to the level of six inches over the level of the top of the spillway or less.

The “No Wake Zone” declaration means boaters will have to abide to a 5 mile per hour maximum speed limit.

Everson expects the no wake restriction to remain in place for a week or two. City and GF&P staff will monitor the levels.
