The Mitchell Rotary Club presented its annual Carl Sprunger Educator of the Year Award to Mitchell High Language Arts teacher Melissa Miller on Thursday.
She was selected from nominations made by graduating seniors of Mitchell’s two high schools.
Committee member Tom Dice shared several of the comments including. “Because she goes above and beyond the requirements of teacher”, said Dice. “She always takes time to really know and understand each student. She works to make each student feel valued and welcome.”
Miller was speechless, so to speak and spoke of her students with gratitude. “I tell them all the time, ‘I love you’ and they’re like “do you really, do you just say that”, said Miller. “Those are not words I use lightly…you need to know that you are a valued human being. So what they did is they reciprocated.”
Miller is looking forward to returning to the classroom and seeing her students this fall.
