Our society is no doubt going through unprecedented times right now. For our students at the Mitchell Middle School, life as they knew it came to an abrupt halt on Friday, March 13, 2020. A bit of a side note, it seems that after countless times of passing by unnoticed, Friday the 13th has lived up to the hype! Not only have classrooms, lessons, activities, and lectures turned digital, so have some of our competitions and award ceremonies.
Two years ago, under the guidance of Mitchell High School HOSA advisors Clayton Gropper and Tricia Neugebauer Middle School Science Teacher Kelli Mueller started a HOSA chapter for interested 8th grade students. HOSA, Health Occupation Students of America, is an organization that works to promote career opportunities in the health care industry for interested students. The Mitchell Senior High has had an active and successful HOSA chapter for many years, and that tradition is helping our Middle Schoolers start out successful.
Fifteen of our middle school students competed in the state competition back at the beginning of March before schools switched to digital learning. They were originally scheduled for an awards ceremony in March, but had to reschedule. This weekend, after a long wait , MMS students finally found out the results of their hard work through a digital award ceremony. All 15 students placed at the state level! They will move on to the international competition in June. It was to be in Houston, Texas but will now be digital as well. Great Job to the following students and good luck at the next level!
