On Monday at approx. 11:40 a.m. the Mitchell Department of Public Safety Dispatch center received a report of a deceased man and woman who were found at a motel located on the 1600 block of S. Burr St. Officers and ambulance personnel responded to the scene and found an adult man and adult female who were deceased inside of a motel room. At this time, there are no indications of foul play involved in the deaths.
The deceased persons appear to have traveled to Mitchell from another state, in a U-Haul van. It appears that these individuals arrived at the motel together on Saturday, May 18th at approx. 10:40 p.m.
Investigators are attempting to identify the individuals, as it appears that prior to the deaths, that the deceased took actions to avoid being identified.
The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the South Dakota Highway Patrol have assisted with the investigation.
This is an ongoing investigation. An autopsy will be conducted today on the deceased. More information regarding this incident will be released in the near future.
