Mitchell School Board votes to accept the 2024-2025 fiscal year audit and more

The Mitchell School Board voted to accept the findings of the 2024-2025 fiscal year audit during Monday’s meeting. Superintendent Joe Childs was pleased with the findings. “The multiple people that looked at it had no concerns, no business that needed to be conducted in terms of correction or any of that matter, and so things went as well as they could have”, said Childs. The board will consider final approval at a later date.

Childs said the group also approved the MC-TEA window replacement project. “Front facing windows that face Capitol Street out here on Capitol Street, where the main high school is at,” Childs told the board. “Those windows, those storefront windows that are floor to ceiling, have been leaking for a number of years.” The bids came in lower than expected.

He also told the board to mark April 1st on their calendars. “We hope it’s a big event,” Childs said. ‘We hope it’s not an April Fool’s joke, but April 1st is the date, right now, slated to begin raising the old building. And so, we’re ready for the wrecking ball to swing.” Demolition of the old high school has been delayed due to asbestos mitigation issues.

Childs also provided an update on the new summer scholars program set to start at the end of the current school year.
