Mitchell Technical College has taken on a new name and a new brand effective July 1.
After the passage of House Bill 1083 during the 2020 South Dakota legislative session, each of South Dakota’s four technical institutes officially became colleges. The new name will better align the four schools with other technical colleges across the country. As part of the naming endeavor, Mitchell Tech has redesigned its logo and is in the process of introducing a new brand to the public.
According to Mitchell Tech’s Director of Marketing Bob Kobernusz, “Mitchell Tech has grown and evolved over the years, and we have refreshed our look to reflect who we are today and to symbolize our future. We believe the new look better matches what we’ve become: an innovative leader in technical education, and a valued partner in workforce development.”
Mitchell Tech President Mark Wilson said the change was a long time coming. “We have been working toward the goal of renaming the State’s four Technical Institutes to Technical Colleges for a number of years.
The process began with the passage of Amendment R in 2018 and was carried out under the direction of the State Board for Technical Education.” The new brand was selected by a committee of Mitchell Tech faculty and staff members with research, strategy, and design performed by 44i in Sioux Falls, SD. Mitchell Tech plans to replace the previous name and logo on select signage, print materials, clothing and other applications over the next few months and throughout the fiscal year.
