A stolen pickup led to a pursuit across multiple counties involving numerous law enforcement agencies.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office reported shortly before 3am Monday, Moody County Sheriff’s deputies asked for help pursuing an F-550 truck reported stolen from the Sioux Falls area and traveling northbound on I-29 into Brookings County. The vehicle attempted to both elude officers and to collide with other traffic.
Deuel County Sheriff’s deputies eventually deployed spike strips, which damaged the truck. Codington County Sheriff’s deputies, Watertown police and area tribal police also joined the pursuit. The truck’s tires eventually came off the rims, but the vehicle continued north until the driver lost control and eventually entered a ditch at Exit 180 north of Watertown.
Two juvenile suspects were taken into custody without further incident. Names are not being released. The Brookings, Minnehaha and Codington County Sheriff’s Offices are investigating the incident.
