Safe Place of Eastern South Dakota pushing purple in October

There’s a whole lot of purple popping up around Mitchell. Safe Place of Eastern South Dakota executive Director Colleen Hoffman says October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“And that’s a way that we can honor victims and survivors and advocates who are a voice for them as we work through this month,” said Hoffman.

It’s also the one-year anniversary of the Safe Place’s new location on North Kimball Street. “What makes our safe place unique is that we have other programs,” Hoffman pointed out. “So we have education, advocacy, and family support services, which also is our family visitation center, and our educational programs like parenting classes, support group, our batterers program, and then we also have housing and rural outreach that travels to our nine counties.”

Hoffman is urging anyone dealing with domestic violence to call the Safe Place Crisis hotline at 605-996-4440 immediately.
