A 34 year old woman from Brookings woman died Monday in a two-vehicle crash near Sisseton.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported 52 year old Phillip Same Wipf was driving a GMC Sierra northbound on I-29 while pulling a 48-foot header trailer. At the same time, Marissa Rae Shultheis was driving a Honda Ridgeline, also traveling northbound. Wipf switched into the passing lane and Shultheis collided with the GMC’s trailer. Shultheis sustained fatal injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt. A 13 year old female passenger from Brookings was not injured. She was wearing a seatbelt.
I-29 was closed for approximately four and a half hours.
The investigation is ongoing.
