The South Dakota Secretary of State’s Office reminds eligible South Dakotans that Monday, October 19, 2026, is the voter registration deadline for the November 3rd General Election. Voter registration applications may be submitted at county auditors’ offices, driver’s license stations, city finance offices, designated public assistance and disability services agencies, and military recruitment offices. Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. local time Monday.
Individuals who need to register or update their registration should contact their county auditor promptly. South Dakota does not offer online voter registration or Election Day voter registration. Registered voters can check their status at https://vip.sdsos.gov/VIPLogin.aspx.
Individuals registering for the first time in South Dakota or registering again after removal from the voter rolls should contact their county auditor about documentary proof of citizenship requirements and federal-voter registration options. The documentary requirement does not apply to already registered voters updating their name, address, or political party affiliation.
Registration forms and information are available at https://sdsos.gov/elections-voting/voting/register-to-vote/default.aspx. County auditor contact information is available at https://vip.sdsos.gov/CountyAuditors.aspx.
