One dead in single vehicle crash near the James River

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety says a 28 year old man died in a single-vehicle crash that occurred two miles northeast of Mitchell.

A 2008 Chrysler Town and County Van was eastbound on 250th Street when the vehicle eventually entered the south ditch, went through a barbed wire fence and into the James River. The time and date of the crash are still under investigation.

Authorities Wednesday morning recovered a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country Van. A short time later, the body of a male was found along the river’s west shore about a quarter of a mile away.

Authorities are withholding the victim’s name until family members are notified.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The search continuing for more possible vehicle occupants.
