The Lewis & Clark Regional Water System set a new record this summer. It broke its single-day usage record by delivering 39-million gallons of water on July 17th.
Executive Director Troy Larson says work is currently underway to expand capacity to 60-million gallons per day…and initial work has begun to go beyond that. “So what we’re building now will get us to 60 million gallons a day, but we need to look at what do we need for the next 40 years, from 2030 to 2070,” said Larson. “And that’s what this feasibility study will look at.”
Larson says the system will need another 95-million gallons of water per day on top of the 60-million.
Lewis & Clark provides water to 20 cities, including Sioux Falls.
