Six Honored for Heroic Actions During Fatal Mitchell Crash

MITCHELL, S.D. — The Mitchell Police Department has recognized six individuals for their bravery and selfless actions during a tragic motor vehicle crash that occurred April 29.

Honored with awards were Mitchell Police Officer Shanden Reiners, Mitchell Police Officer Garrett Douglas, Davison County Deputy Kohl Oster, Davison County Deputy Kyle Bice, and citizens Anthony Reimnitz and RJ Munson.

According to the police department, the recipients demonstrated exceptional courage, quick thinking and a willingness to place themselves in harm’s way while responding to the crash.

The department said the six individuals, along with numerous other first responders, displayed professionalism, compassion and dedication while working through a difficult and heartbreaking incident.

Officials noted that the actions of those recognized reflected a commitment to serving and helping others regardless of the personal risks involved.

While the crash resulted in tragic circumstances, the department said the response from first responders and community members highlighted the character, selflessness and teamwork present throughout the Mitchell area.

The Mitchell Police Department encouraged the community to congratulate the award recipients and thank all first responders who assisted at the scene.
