Family member expresses thanks to local first responders and civilians following a tragic crash

Family members of the victims of an April 29th single vehicle crash on I-90 at Mitchell joined a special program remotely Monday to thank the four first responders and two civilians who rendered aid to the vehicle’s occupants.

34 year old Shane Willis and his wife, 38 year old Melynda Willis of Pierre passed away from their injuries. Two child passengers in the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Bruce Willis expressed his thanks. “There’s not words that can express the gratitude we feel for the jobs you guys do and the effort that you guys put forth in getting these two little kids out of the vehicle,” said Willis. “I’ve heard reports that you guys have them out of the vehicle and into the hospital, in the ER in less than 10 minutes of the 911 call.”

Davison County Deputies Kyle Bice and Kohl Oster along with Mitchell Police Officers Garrett Douglas and Shanden Reiners plus civilians J.R. Munson and Anthony Reimnitz were presented plaques in recognition of their efforts.
