South Dakota at the Great American State Fair

The Great American State Fair kicked off in Washington, D. C. last Thursday.  All 50 states and territories have a spot on the National Mall to show off the best of each state.  South Dakota State Historical Society Director Dr. Ben Jones says South Dakota’s spot will be staffed with volunteers and state government officials.

He says South Dakota is located near other regional states on the National Mall.

Jones says South Dakota is also providing some entertainment to its booth at the Fair. “The Arts Council has helped me communicate with Brian Akipa, the musician who lives near Sisseton,” said Jones. “Some of you may have heard of him. He is coming out for a few days to perform there and do some artwork.” “So that was good that we can add his talent to our pavilion,” Jones noted.

The Great American State Fair runs now through July 10th in Washington, DC.
