Three juveniles injured in a rollover crash Sunday afternoon

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says three juveniles were injured, one critically, Sunday afternoon when their vehicle rolled in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 at mile marker 38 east of Sturgis, SD.

Preliminary crash information indicates the 16-year-old driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling westbound on I-90 toward Sturgis. The driver left the roadway and entered the north ditch, over-corrected, and the vehicle tripped and rolled, coming to rest in the median.

The driver sustained minor injuries. Two passengers in the vehicle suffered serious, non-life-threatening and life-threatening injuries, respectively. One juvenile was transported from Sturgis hospital to Rapid City via life flight. Charges are pending for driving without a valid license or permit and prohibited use of a mobile electronic device.

The crash slowed traffic on the westbound side of the Interstate 90 through the accident zone.

The names of the people involved have not been released.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
