On Thursday afternoon at 4:17 pm, the Mitchell Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the rear of the Corn Palace next to the Plaza stage. On arrival crews found decorative materials used for the Corn Palace on fire. The fire was threatening a structure as well as a canopy used for shade. Fire crews quickly contained the fire and no damage was noted to adjacent structures.
Several surveillance cameras were in the vicinity of the fire and Mitchell Public Safety is asking for assistance to help identify three persons of interest.
