Angels advance to the quarterfinals


MITCHELL, S.D. –
 The Alexandria Angels make quick work of Volga on Monday night with a 16-1, 8 inning victory to advance to Thursday night’s quarterfinal where they will take on the Flandreau Cardinals.

The Angels scored in each of the first four innings to build a 8-1 lead. Alexandria would put up eight runs in the top of the 8th to end the game early. They would bring 12 batters up in the 8th and score those eight runs on six hits.

Cole Wenande led the hit parade with a 4-for-5 night, scoring four times with three RBI’s and a pair of triples. Jarred Zens and Peyton Smith also had three hits apiece. Jordan Gau had a game-high four RBI’s, driving in a pair of runs in the 4th to put the Angels up 8-1.

Tyson Gau went seven of the eight innings for the Angels, giving up just one run and seven hits to go along with eight strikeouts. Ethan Davis would pitch a scoreless 8th inning in relief.

Alexandria would knock Volga starter Trevor Olson out in the 4th inning. Olson gave up seven of the Angels 16 runs in just 3 1/3 innings.

The Angels are now just three wins away from their fifth title in the past six seasons. They play Flandreau at 8 pm on Thursday night with the winner advancing to the semifinals on Saturday at 5:30 pm
