Dakota Wesleyan Face Late Scoring Runs From Dakota State in Road Loss

MADISON, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan Men’s Basketball squared off against the Dakota State Trojans in the second contest of the 2025 Battle of the Blues doubleheader as a part of the out-of-conference rivalry.

The contest started at a slower pace, with both the Tigers and Trojans fighting through fouls and possession changes early on. As both teams settled into the game offensively, the Tigers saw Randy Rosenquist Jr. surge, scoring all 10 of his points in the first half of play. He posted four rebounds, three assists, and three steals to extend his contributions on both sides of the court. Tyson Stevenson would end up being DWU’s leading scorer on the day, as the sophomore from Lake Norden went 6-11 (54.5%) from the field and 2-5 (40%) from the three-point line. Both teams continued to trade blows down the stretch in the first half, and both teams would end up going to the locker room tied at 30-30. In his first start as a Tiger, Andrew Younan added to the DWU effort with five points, two boards, and an assist in 20 total minutes played, while true freshman Noah Oberfeld posted seven points off the bench.

The second half started at the same pace as the first, with both teams staying close, but with just under 10 minutes left, Dakota State began to pull away. The Tigers continued to battle, aided by Anthony Riggans, who contributed 11 points, two steals, and an assist as a starter. Steele Morgan was limited in the paint, but still contributed four points, four rebounds, and three assists to the team effort. CJ Banks would record two points, three assists, and a rebound off the bench.

Even still, it would not be enough to close the gap down the stretch, as the Trojans eventually extended their lead to double digits and defeated the Tigers, 64-53. Dakota Wesleyan was outshot by Dakota State 42.6% to 48.9%, and the Trojans would attempt 22 free throws, which doubled the 11 attempted by the Tigers.

DWU Men’s Basketball will be back in action against the Concordia Bulldogs on Saturday, December 6th, at 3:45 PM down in Seward.
