MITCHELL, S.D. — The Dakota Wesleyan Men’s Soccer team faced off against Mount Marty to kick off a doubleheader at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
The Tigers would waste no time getting to work in what ended up being an astounding offensive performance. Evan Bolster would score the first of his four goals in just the 10th minute to get Dakota Wesleyan rolling, followed by by Maximilian Nolle‘s unassisted goal in the 19th minute. Bolster would chime in with another goal before the half, and Lewis Cunningham would register a goal in the 38th minute to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead heading into the locker room. Defensively, Zackary Stephens would have a relatively quiet day because of the efforts of the backline, headlined by Neil Ennis and Colin Burke, who would each contribute a full 90 minutes of effort. Joseph Valler would see minutes protecting the goal towards the end of the game as well.
Korbinian Rieder would dominate the second half, scoring all four of his goals within a 10-minute timespan to tie Bolster’s goal total, but not before a Luis Waeschle unassisted strike would add to the offensive effort. The Tigers took advantage of a Lancer defense that continued to leave the back of the pitch open, which created a plethora of open shots for DWU to capitalize on. Bolster and Rieder would continue to rack up points while Ty Ferguson would record a goal of his own to contribute. The nine-goal second half would give the Men’s Soccer team a 13-0 win over the Mount Marty Lancers.
DWU’s 13-0 victory was just one goal shy of tying the 2005 Men’s Soccer program record of 14 goals in one contest. The four individual goals scored by both Rieder and Bolster put them tied in the record books for most goals in a single game.
The Tigers will host Dordt on Wednesday, September 24th, at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
