MITCHELL, S.D. — No. 24 Dakota Wesleyan Volleyball squared off against the Briar Cliff Chargers in a GPAC contest.
The Tigers came into the game off back-to-back conference losses and played with something to prove. Dakota Wesleyan would have a strong showing in the first two sets, jumping out to a 2-0 match lead off the back of a well-rounded attack that featured Evy Knoblock, who tallied 16 kills throughout the contest. Lily Ranschau and Karly VanDerWerff would follow closely behind in scoring, recording 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Emily Dale and Madisyn Grimsrud would be the team’s top contributors at the net, tallying three blocks apiece. Kayleigh Hybertson tied her season-high mark in assists as the team’s primary setter, picking up 48 in total. The Tigers took the first frame by a score of 25-17 and the second one by a score of 25-19, thanks to the combined efforts of the offensive contributors.
The Chargers would find life in the third set, claiming the frame in a close 25-23 battle. The Tigers would turn right back around, however, and keep the pace up to outscore Briar Cliff. Elizabeth Tyler set her second-highest mark of the season in digs with 27 in a performance that anchored the defensive effort. Abigail Zegar would record 14 digs as a starter in the competition, being a key contributor for the team down the stretch. Presly Pastian tallied 12 digs of her own, while the team would combine for 85 overall. An early scoring run in the fourth set and a stout performance from the defensive specialists put the Tigers over the Chargers, claiming the set and match win, 25-22.
DWU Women’s Volleyball will be back in action down in Iowa on Wednesday, September 24th, against Morningside.
