MITCHELL, S.D. — RV Dakota Wesleyan Men’s Wrestling hosted the 25th-ranked Morningside Mustangs at the Christen Family Athletic Center for the team’s final home event of the season.
The Tigers would give up a forfeit loss at 125, but Kipp Cordes quickly got to work at 133 in the opening match to get DWU back even on the scoreboard. An impressive third period from Cordes led to a pinfall in the closing moments of the match and gave the Tigers the momentum they needed in front of a red-hot home crowd. Ian Metz followed up the 133 match with a thrilling victory in extra time, securing a takedown and nearfall points to claim an 8-1 lead and put DWU in the lead. Zach Kolbe was unable to come out on top in his bout at 149, but Gavin Braun got a win back for the Tigers at 157 with another late pinfall in the third period.
Out of the intermission, Jackson Remmers would fall via a major decision at 165, but a thrilling last-second takedown victory for Teagan Foreman at 174 swung the dual back in Dakota Wesleyan’s favor. Jagger Tyler would pull out a stout 7-3 decision victory at 184, and Jaxon Quail continued DWU’s clutch streak with another last-second takedown to secure a 4-1 win and put the dual out of reach for the opposing Mustangs on the team scoreboard. Senior heavyweight Cole Hennings capped off his time wrestling in the CFAC with an 11-2 major decision win, giving the Tigers the 28-15 team victory over the ranked Mustangs. The full capacity crowd helped propel Dakota Wesleyan to its most exciting dual win of the season.
DWU Men’s Wrestling will be back in action on the road at Waldorf on Thursday, January 29th, starting at 6:30 PM.
