SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Dakota Wesleyan Women’s Basketball was picked to finish tied for first out of 12 teams in the Great Plains Athletic Conference preseason poll, receiving a total of 116 points.
The Tigers earned 116 total points and six first-place votes to help have them atop the preseason poll. Dakota Wesleyan returns multiple key players, All-GPAC performers, and a majority of their starting lineup, with Avery Broughton, Emma Yost, Jaida Young, and Shalayne Nagel all returning for the 2026-27 season. Yost comes off a season that earned her the prestigious Emil S. Liston Award along with All-American honors, alongside Broughton, who would be named All-American, GPAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year, and CSC Second Team Academic All-American.
The GPAC poll has the Tigers tied with Dordt University at the top of the conference, who DWU defeated in the 2026 GPAC Women’s Basketball Championship game down in Sioux Center, Iowa, last season.
Head Coach Jason Christensen will look to lead the team to another NAIA tournament in his 17th season with the assistance of Associate Head Coach Celeste Beck, heading into year 12 coaching for the Tigers.
Dakota Wesleyan opens action with a scrimmage when they welcome Northern State University to the Corn Palace on October 25th at 4:00 PM.
