Kernels Sweep No. 4 Watertown, Extend Win Streak to Seven

WATERTOWN, S.D. — The Mitchell Kernels volleyball team took down Class AA No. 4-ranked Watertown in straight sets on Thursday night, 25-22, 25-23, 27-25, marking their seventh consecutive victory and improving to 13-4 on the season.

The win is Mitchell’s longest streak since opening the 2017 season with 11 straight victories.

Setter Addie Siemsen directed the offense with 24 assists and contributed across the board with 10 digs and a match-high six blocks. Senior hitter Audrey Miller led the Kernels in kills with 12 on 38 swings, while eighth-grader Nia Talley added seven kills and a team-best 19 digs. Mitchell’s defense tallied 57 digs as a team and notched 10 total blocks.

Offensively, the Kernels hit .180 as a group, finishing with 34 kills to Watertown’s 31. Three Mitchell players registered at least four blocks: Siemsen (6), Kenzie Hetland (5), and Kambyl Wede (4).

With the win, Mitchell moves ahead of Sioux Falls Lincoln for fifth in AA seed points. The Kernels travel to Aberdeen Central on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. matchup.
