The Huron Tigers jumped out to a 31-0 halftime lead by capitalizing on three Mitchell turnovers and blocking a punt and went on to beat the Kernels 51-17 in the regular season finale for both teams. Austin Kerr finished 8 of 13 for 87 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions while running for 47 yards. Parker Phillips was held to just 34 yards rushing on 11 carries. Mitchell is the fifth seed for the 11AA football playoffs and will travel to Sturgis Thursday night. The Kernels beat Sturgis 42 to 23 in Mitchell on October 12th.

Pierre is the top seed in the 11AA playoffs and will host Spearfish. Brookings, the second seed, hosts Douglas and third-seed Huron will host Yankton in the other quarterfinal round games Thursday night.

The brackets are also set for 11AAA. Sioux Falls Roosevelt is the top seed and will host Watertown. Fourth seed O’Gorman hosts Harrisburg; Lincoln is the second seed and will face Washington; and Brandon Valley, the third seed, hosts Rapid City Stevens.

On Q107.3 last night, Platte-Geddes quarterback Kelby VanDerWerff hit Caden Foxley on a 8-yard scoring pass with 1:37 left in the game to lift the Black Panthers to a road victory over Hanson 26-22 in the Class 9AA playoffs. Platte-Geddes will play at top-seeded Viborg-Hurley Thursday in the quarterfinals.

The Mitchell Kernel volleyball team, 4-18 overall, will play a rare Friday night match in Sioux Falls as the Kernels play at #5 ranked in Class AA Washington. The Warriors are 15-7 overall and are seeded #4 in Class AA. Varsity match Friday starts at 7:00pm. Tuesday the Kernels return home and host Huron at 7:00pm.

The DWU Tiger volleyball team, 18-8 overall and 3-8 in the GPAC, hosts Hastings College at 7:30pm tonight at the Christen Family Athletic Center in Mitchell for Parents Night. Saturday the Tigers host Doane at 5:00pm for their Dig Pink Match. The Tiger volleyball team is a game and half behind College of St. Mary for the eighth and final playoff spot in the GPAC.

The Dakota Wesleyan University football team, 1-7 overall and 0-6 in the GPAC, will host No. 1 Morningside College Saturday at Joe Quintal with kick-off slated for 1:00pm. The Tigers will finish the regular season with home games Jamestown and Hastings November 9th and 16th.

Two of the top three teams in the Football Championship Subdivision rankings square off Saturday in a key Missouri Valley Football Conference matchup as third-ranked South Dakota State hosts No. 1 and two-time defending national champion North Dakota State in Brookings. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. The game was announced as a sellout earlier in the week. That means 19,000 plus fans will be packed into the stadium. ESPN’s College GameDay Built by the Home Depot will be broadcast from College Green on the SDSU campus from 8am-11am Saturday. Fans are encouraged to arrive early with further details available online at GoJacks.com and sdstate.edu. KORN News Radio Pre-Game starts at 1:00pm Saturday with kick-off to follow. The Jackrabbits enter Saturday’s contest with a 6-1 overall record and 3-0 mark in the MVFC. SDSU brings a 15-game home winning streak into the game. North Dakota State remains undefeated at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in league play. The Bison have won 28 consecutive games since the Jackrabbits recorded a 33-21 victory at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium on Nov. 4, 2017.

The USD Coyote football team will be hosting Southern Illinois on Saturday with kick-off from the Dakota Dome in Vermillion set for 4:00pm. The Coyotes are 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the MVFC.

The SDSU men and women basketball teams will open the exhibition season on October 30th in Brookings as the Jackrabbit women host St. Cloud State at Frost with tip-off slated for 6:00pm followed by the Jackrabbit men hosting Mount Marty at 8:15pm. November 5th the SDSU men will host Rio Grande Valley at 7:00pm while the SDSU women will be at Drake in Des Moines Iowa on November 8th at 7:00pm. The USD Coyote men will tip-off on November 2nd against Concordia/St. Paul at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center in Vermillion with tip-off slated for 6:00pm. The Coyote men will then head to Hawaii for three games November 8th-11th. The USD women will open on the road at Northeastern in Boston on November 5th at 11:00am and then play at Green Bay on November 9th at 1:00pm. The home opener for the Coyote women will be November 13th against Drake at the SCSC with tip-off set for 7:00pm.
