Local Sports for June 21st

Mitchell Post 18’s doubleheader at Aberdeen was postponed last night. Post 18 will play at two games at Huron today beginning at 5 p.m. Post 18 plays one game at Sturgis Thursday before playing five games at Gillette, Wyoming’s tournament starting Friday.

The Mitchell Junior Legion baseball team plays in the Sioux Falls Tournament beginning Friday. Mitchell Black hosts Watertown for a teener doubleheader Friday beginning at 4 p.m. Mitchell White hosts Brookings for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. White plays in the Sioux Falls Tournament starting Friday.

The Mitchell High School volleyball summer camp will be held July 11th and 12th at the MHS Gym. The two-day camp is open to all girls entering grades 5-12 at a cost of $65 with separate sessions for middle school and high school students. The session for grades 9-12 runs from 9 a.m. to noon both days while the session for grades 5-8 is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, contact volleyball coach Deb Thill at Deb.Thill@k12.sd.us.

Mitchell native Jeff Culhane has been hired as Director of Broadcasting for LEARFIELD’s Seminole Sports Properties and will serve as the voice for Florida State football and men’s basketball. For the past six years, Culhane has been the voice of North Dakota State football, men’s basketball and baseball. Culhane has also handled broadcasting duties for Nebraska and West Virginia. Prior to his time at Nebraska, Culhane was the play-by-play voice for South Dakota women’s basketball and held multiple broadcasting roles throughout the state including for KORN News Radio. Culhane will begin his new role July 1 and will call his first FSU contest Aug. 27 in football’s season opener against Duquesne.

There is a pair of Sunshine League amateur baseball games tonight. The Alexandria Angels host first-place Winner-Colome and Platte hosts Dimock-Emery. Both games begin at 8 p.m.
