Jake Helleloid allowed three hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out four in 6.2-innings in Mitchell Post 18’s 4 to 1 win over Rapid City Post 320 in the Class A Legion baseball tourney opener on Wednesday. Mitchell fell behind 1-0 after the first two batters started the game with a triple and single. Post 18 tied the game in the second and took the lead in the third when Jace Larson got a hit to score two runs. Helleloid had two hits and scored a run. Dylan Soulek logged two hits, while Seth Muth and Jace Larson each added hits. Mitchell will play Rapid City Post 22 tonight at 8 p.m. central time. Post 22 held off Harrisburg Post 45 4 to 2 on Wednesday. Palmer Jacobs allowed two hits and two runs, while recording eight strikeouts in the win. Post 320 plays Harrisburg Post 45 in an elimination game on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. central time.

Henry Hammrich’s eighth inning walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Brookings to a 6 to 5 win over Pierre. Pierre scored its five runs through the first three innings. Lincoln Kienholz finished with three hits and an RBI. Brookings plays Sioux Falls Post 15 East in the winner’s bracket today at 5p.m. central time. Post 15 East racked up 12 hits to race past Brandon Valley Post 131 14 to 2 in five innings. Pierre plays Brandon Valley Post 131 in an elimination game at 11 a.m. central time.

The Plankinton Bankers captured the District 3B amateur baseball title with a 7 to 1 win over Kimball-White Lake in Chamberlain on Wednesday night. Josh Engquist allowed one run on four hits and struck out four in the complete game effort for Plankinton. Travis Gant, Alex Loes, and Trevor Salmonson had two hits apiece for Plankinton. Engquist, Salmonson, and Preston Kristensen each had two RBI. Brian Zeman started the game for Kimball/White Lake, allowing 11 hits and seven runs, while striking out three and walking one in six innings. Zeman, Jesse Kroupa, Trent Wookey, and Caden Lenz each had one hit, while Lenz also had the one RBI for Kimball-White Lake. Both teams have secured a spot in the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament that begins next Wednesday at Cadwell Park. The Plankinton Gold Sox and Colome will play tonight to be the final rep for District 3 in the state tournament.

The District 5B amateur baseball tournament continues tonight with a pair of games in Corsica. Platte and Mount Vernon square-off at 6 p.m. followed by Dimock-Emery against Corsica-Stickney. The two winners tonight qualify for the state tournament while the two losing teams will play Friday night at 6 p.m. for a last-chance to advance to the state tournament. Top seed Winner/Colome plays second seed Alexandria in the district championship game Friday night at 8 p.m.

The District 4B amateur baseball tournament continues tonight in Dell Rapids with Dell Rapids PBR against the Dell Rapids Mudcats at 6 p.m. followed by Salem against Madison. The winners secure a spot in the state tournament. The losers will play again Friday night against either Flandreau or Lennox.

The Class B Legion Baseball Tournament start Friday in Gregory. Hartford/Humboldt vs. Winner/Colome – 10 am followed by Milbank vs. Redfield. Vermillion faces Dell Rapids at 5 p.m. followed by Platte-Geddes against Gregory. The Championship is next Tuesday, August 2nd.

Mitchell Black and Mitchell White are set to play in the Class A teener state tournaments starting today. Mitchell Black will play in Pierre while Mitchell White will play in Brookings. Mitchell Black is a part of the blue pool and will play Yankton today at 5 p.m. At noon on Friday, Mitchell will face Sioux Falls East. Saturday, Mitchell Black will play Pierre at 6 p.m. Mitchell White is part of the red pool and will play Huron tonight at 7:30 p.m. Mitchell will face Yankton Friday at 2:30 p.m. and on Saturday, will play Watertown at 10 a.m. Pool winners will play in the championship brackets on Sunday with state championship games set for Sunday afternoon.
