The Mitchell Marlins boys hockey team took home sixth place at this weekend’s state tournament in Brookings.
On Friday, the Rushmore Thunder defeated Mitchell 7-2 in the quarterfinals. The Marlins were down early 4-0 at the end of the first period before Rushmore took a 6-0 lead in the opening minute of the second period. Mitchell had goals from Levi Loken and Coy Olson to close out the second period.
On Saturday, Mitchell scored four goals in the second period on their way to a 5-3 win over Aberdeen in the consolation semifinals. Pacxton Denne finished with two goals on the day.
In the fifth place game on Sunday, the Marlins fell to Sioux Falls East, 10-2. Mick Dailey and Denne has both of Mitchell’s goals in the second period.
Mitchell ends the season with a 12-13 record.
