Mitchell Post 18 advances to State Legion Baseball Tournament

MITCHELL, S.D. — Mitchell Post 18 completed a two-game sweep of Aberdeen on Saturday with a 10-2 win to advance to the Legion State Baseball Tournament next week in Rapid City.

After winning game one of the best-of-3 series on Friday, 4-2, Mitchell got off to a quick start in game two with a 7-2 lead after the top of the 2nd inning.

Carson Fahey led the Mitchell offense with 3 RBI’s. The bottom third of the Mitchell order (Joe VanOverschelde, Brock Sparks and Fahey) were a combined 5-for-10 with 4 RBI’s and 4 runs scored.

Landon Waddell picked up the win, throwing four innings, allowing two runs on one hit with eight walks.

Mitchell (25-13) will be the #3 seed when they play its opening round game on Wednesday vs. #6 Rapid City Post 320 at 1:30 pm CST. It is Mitchell’s first Legion State Tournament appearance since 2019.

The first game of the day will see #1 Brookings take on #9 Pierre at 11 am CST. The third game of the opening round will be between #4 Brandon Valley and #5 Sioux Falls East at 5 pm CST, followed by the final game of the day between the host #2 Rapid City Post 22 and #7 Harrisburg at 8 pm CST.

The double elimination tournament will conclude on Sunday, July 31st.
