
MITCHELL, S.D. — Mitchell Kernels volleyball will host Pierre on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. as part of the annual Kernel Bowl weekend.
Senior Addie Siemsen leads the team in several categories, including assists (74), kills (23), and service aces (14). She also holds the team’s highest hitting percentage at .288 and is serving at 93 percent efficiency.
Senior Addie Miller has added 31 kills (2.6 per set) while hitting .383. Junior Charleigh Collins and senior Kambyl Wede have also provided consistent production on the front line, with 17 and 15 kills, respectively. Collins leads the team in total blocks with seven.
Defensively, senior Kenna Soulek leads the team in digs with 46 (3.8 per set), followed by Siemsen with 32 and 8th grader Nia Talley with 30. Soulek also contributes as a secondary setter.
The Kernels have compiled 108 kills on 363 total attacks through 12 sets this season, with a team hitting percentage of .174. They have also recorded 101 assists, 174 digs, 22 total blocks, and 35 aces.
Saturday’s match will be Mitchell’s second home contest since opening the season last Friday with a four set win vs. Sturgis. Last year, the Kernels lost to Pierre in a close five-set match on the road. Mitchell was edged in the deciding set 15-13.
Pierre is coming off a 3-0 win vs. Douglas on Thursday after starting the season 0-3 with losses to Watertown, Rapid City Central and Rapid City Stevens.
The match is one of several events held in conjunction with Kernel Bowl weekend.
