For the third time in the past four years, Mitchell gymnastics are state champions in Class AA with a team score of 151.444, defeating second place Harrisburg by nearly 1.5 points.
The Kernels set a new school record with 151.444 points to clinch their ninth state title since 2007.
Mitchell finished first in vault, bars, beam and floor amid numerous top individual performances.
Olivia Prunty led the Kernels in the vault with a score of 9.717, followed by Keyana Kelley at 9.566.
On bars, Bentley Bates posted a 9.717, with Olivia Prunty scoring a 9.500.
Bates also led Mitchell on beam with a score of 9.783, while Aubrey Gelderman finished with a 9.550.
During the floor exercise, Prunty posted a 9.617 and Bates scored 9.583.
With the individual competition set for Saturday in Pierre, Bates finished with an all-around score of 38.350 during Friday’s team competition.
