Mitchell Senior Allison Meyerink won the Class AA girls golf individual championship on Tuesday at Hillcrest Country Club in Yankton, while the Kernels came in second as a team.
It was a reversal from last season when Meyerink finished second individually and Mitchell took home the team title.
Meyerink shot a +2 (74) on day two after carding at 75 on Monday. It was one shot better than Aberdeen Central’s Olivia Braun. Braun started the day with a three shot lead, but shot a +6 (78) during her second round.
Meyerink claimed the state title by shooting -1 over her last six holes, while Braun was +1 over her final six holes.
Mitchell’s Maddie Childs tied for third overall with a +12 (156) over the two days with a pair of 78’s.
As a team, Mitchell (+76, 652) finished three shots behind Watertown (+73, 649) for the state championship. The Kernels went into Tuesday with a one shot lead over Aberdeen Central and a two shot lead over Watertown.
In the second round, Mitchell shot 321 as a team compared to Watertown’s 316.
