Alexandria 14, Mitchell Aces 4 (8 innings) – The Angels scored eight-runs in the fifth inning. Jackson Jarding with two HR’s and six RBI’s for Alexandria. Cole Wenande with a HR. Landon Ruesink got the win, going six innings with eight strikeouts. Peyton Mandel had three hits for Mitchell.
Winner/Colome 9, Dimock-Emery 6 – Aiden Barfuss with a grand slam for the Pheasants. Cole Knippling had a grand slam among his two HR’s for Dimock-Emery and finished with five RBI’s. Phil Johnson gave up just three earned runs with seven strikeouts over nine innings.
Parkston Rays 8, Mt. Vernon 3 (10 innings) – Parkston with five runs in the top of the 10th innings. Seth Muth had three hits, while Dylan Soulek and Tanner Dyk added HR’s. Jake Helleloid got a no decision for Parkston after throwing seven shutout innings, allowing three hits with 14 strikeouts. Deric Denning went 9 2/3 innings for Mt. Vernon in the loss with seven strikeouts.
Freeman 14, Tabor 4 (7 inn.) – Jake Weier went 5-for-5 for Freeman with two doubles, three RBI’s and four runs scored. Rocky Ammann added a three-run HR for Freeman, while Jackson Fiegen got the win, throwing six innings.

MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell 18-and-under baseball went 0-4 over the weekend at the Phil Brown Classic in Jamestown, North Dakota. On Friday, Mitchell lost to Gillette (Wyo.) 4-2. On Saturday, Mitchell lost to Elmwood (Winnipeg) 3-2 and Jamestown 6-1. On Sunday, Midway/Minto (N.D.) defeated Mitchell 5-3. Mitchell sits at 5-8 on the season.
— Mitchell Gold 16-and-under baseball has won nine games in a row and will be at Brandon Valley for two games on Monday at 5 pm.
— Mitchell Black 14-and-under baseball (14-11 on the season) will travel to Winner for a doubleheader, beginning at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
— The next stop in the Sanford Golf Series is set for Monday at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

— Yandy Díaz doubled in the go-ahead run in a three-run 10th inning as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Minnesota Twins 7-5 to avoid a three-game sweep. Harrison Bader tied the game for Minnesota with a two-run HR in the eighth inning before reliever Justin Topa game up three runs in the 10th. The Twins start a three-game series at home vs. the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday at 6:40 pm.

— The Washington Nationals fired manager Davey Martinez and general manager Mike Rizzo on Sunday night, hours after a 6-4 loss at home completed a sweep the Boston Red Sox. The Nationals are 37-53 and in last place in the National League East. The 60-year-old Martinez led Washington to its first World Series title in 2019.
— The rosters for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game will feature 19 first-timers as the pitchers and reserves were announced Sunday for the July 15 game in Atlanta. Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, was named to his 11th National League roster as a special commissioner’s selection. Among the first-time All-Stars announced Sunday: Dodgers pitcher Yoshi Yamamoto; Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood and left-hander MacKenzie Gore; Houston Astros ace Hunter Brown and shortstop Jeremy Pena; and Chicago Cubs 34-year-old left-hander Matthew Boyd. First-time All-Stars previously elected to start by the fans include Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh, Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson, Baltimore designated hitter Ryan O’Hearn and Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong. Byron Buxton was the lone representative from the Minnesota Twins.

— Kevin Durant’s trade to the Houston Rockets became official yesterday as part of a record-setting seven-team NBA trade, the largest in league history. The deal involves 13 players and multiple draft picks from Houston, Phoenix, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Golden State, Minnesota and the Lakers.
NFL
— All-Pro return man KaVontae Turpin of the Cowboys was arrested in a Dallas suburb on misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Turpin was arrested by police on Saturday. The 28-year-old is out of jail on bond. The former TCU standout is going into his fourth season with the Cowboys and recently signed an $18 million, three-year contract.
NASCAR
— Shane van Gisbergen completed a sweep on the Chicago Street Course on Sunday, winning the NASCAR Cup Series race. It was van Gisbergen’s second victory of the season and his third career Cup win. He also won in Chicago in 2023, becoming the first driver to win in his Cup Series debut since 1963. Ty Gibbs was second, and Tyler Reddick finished third. Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch rounded out the top five.

— Zack Wheeler threw a one-hitter for his first complete game since 2021 in the Philadelphia Phillies’ 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. Wheeler only allowed a leadoff homer to Austin Hays in the fifth inning. The right-hander struck out 12 and didn’t walk a batter, throwing 108 pitches.
— Aaron Judge hit his 33rd home run as the Yankees ended a six-game losing streak by beating the Mets 6-4 to avoid a weekend sweep. Max Fried improved to 9-1 in 12 starts after Yankees losses.
— Christian Walker, Yainer Diaz and Jose Altuve each homered as the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 to complete their first three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium since 2008.
— Trey Sweeney and Riley Greene homered during a six-run 10th inning as the Detroit Tigers beat Cleveland 7-2, extending the Guardians’ losing streak to 10 games. Tarik Skubal struck out 10, allowing three hits in seven shutout innings.
— Bo Bichette homered and scored the deciding run to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to their season-high eighth straight victory, 3-2 over the Los Angeles Angels. The American League East-leading Blue Jays improved to 52-38, sweeping a homestand of seven of more games for the first time since 1994.
— Matthew Boyd struck out nine in five innings after being named to his first All-Star team, helping the Chicago Cubs defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 11-0. Boyd allowed only three hits and lowered his ERA to 2.52. Nico Hoerner was 3 for 4 with three runs and finished a home run shy of the cycle. Seiya Suzuki and Pete Crow-Armstrong were each 2 for 5, with Suzuki hitting his 25th homer.
— Michael Lorenzen struck out seven and allowed only two hits in seven innings, while Bobby Witt Jr. homered as the Kansas City Royals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-0.
— Randy Arozarena homered and George Kirby tossed 6 1/3 innings as the Seattle Mariners shut out the Pirates for the third straight game, winning 1-0 as Pittsburgh wasted another strong start by Paul Skenes. Skenes had a short but effective outing, striking out 10 and allowing five hits in five innings. He lowered his ERA to 1.94 but is just 4-7 this season.
— Milwaukee’s Brandon Woodruff pitched six innings in his first start in 651 days, while Jackson Chourio homered and drove in three runs as the Brewers beat the Miami Marlins 3-1.
— Willy Adames homered and drew a pair of bases-loaded walks as the San Francisco Giants beat the Athletics 6-2. Tyler Fitzgerald also hit a solo homer, and Rafael Devers and Wilmer Flores each had two hits.
— Mickey Moniak finished a double shy of a cycle, while Michael Toglia hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth inning as the Colorado Rockies beat the Chicago White Sox 6-4 in a series between the two worst teams in the majors. At 21-69, the Rockies also avoided tying the 1907 Cardinals and 1916 Phillies for the most losses in the first 90 games of a season.
— Trevor Story homered, and the Boston Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals with a 6-4 victory Sunday. Left-hander Garrett Crochet (9-4) allowed two runs and struck out seven in five innings. He leads the majors with 151 strikeouts.
— Jackson Holliday’s two-run homer gave Baltimore an early lead as Trevor Rogers ended his career-long victory drought against Atlanta by giving up four hits in 6 2/3 shutout innings as the Orioles beat the Braves 2-1 to complete a three-game sweep. Rogers was 0-7 in nine career starts vs. Atlanta with a 5.57 ERA.
