MITCHELL KERNELS
— The Mitchell Kernels volleyball will face top-seeded Harrisburg on Thursday at Noon CST in the quarterfinals of the Class AA State Tournament in Rapids City. The KORNer Booth pregame show starts at 11 am.

DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan football wrapped up their season with a 24-7 loss to Hastings at home on Saturday. Hastings controlled the game early, rushing for 252 yards and scoring on four of their first five drives. DWU struggled on the ground, gaining just 47 rushing yards, with quarterback Jed Jenson throwing for 186 yards. The Tigers avoided the shutout with a late 10-yard touchdown run by Connor Drake. DWU ends the season with a 4-7 record.

— No. 16 Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball lost 80-76 on the road to No. 25 Hastings on Saturday in its GPAC opener. Emma Yost led the Tigers with 22 points, while Rylee Rosenquist added 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench. The Tigers will look to bounce back Wednesday night against Morningside at the Corn Palace at 6 pm.

— Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball opened their GPAC conference schedule with a 68-55 road victory over Hastings on Saturday. Steele Morgan led the Tigers with 22 points, while Randy Rosenquist Jr. had 13 points and nine rebounds. The Tigers improve to 4-2 and will host Morningside Wednesday night at 7:45 pm at the Corn Palace.

— Dakota Wesleyan volleyball awaits a potential National Tournament invite when the NAIA Selection Show airs on Monday at 4 pm.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State football fell to No. 14 Illinois State 35-21 on Saturday for its fourth straight loss. Illinois State scored 28 points in the first quarter, capitalizing on several early SDSU turnovers. Freshman Quarterback Jack Henry threw for 254 yards and led the team with 41 rushing yards. The Jacks fall to 7-4 on the season and end the regular season on Saturday at No. 13 North Dakota.

— South Dakota State women’s basketball team continued their hot start to the season with a 95-71 win over Montana Saturday night in Rapid city. The Jackrabbits shot 56% from the floor and had five players score in double figures. Brooklyn Meyer led the way with 25 points and 11 rebounds. SDSU, 4-0 on the season, face Gonzaga on Thursday at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls at 7 pm.

— South Dakota State wrestling opened their dual season with a 46-0 shutout over Augustana on Friday night. The Jackrabbits didn’t give up a single takedown all evening, with multiple wrestlers earning tech falls and major decisions. SDSU is ranked No. 17 in the preseason top 25 Coaches Poll and will be at No. 9 Minnesota next Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7 pm.

— South Dakota State women’s soccer lost 1-0 on Friday night at Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Hawkeyes scored their lone goal just three minutes into the match. SDSU ends the season with a 13-3-6 overall record.

— South Dakota State’s Cody Larson has earned a spot at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The Brookings native secured his bid by finishing 13th at the Midwest Regional with a 10K time of 30 minutes, 37 seconds. Earlier this season, Larson won the Summit League Men’s Conference Championship, setting a personal best of 23 minutes, 15 seconds. He’ll compete next Saturday in Columbia, Missouri against the nation’s top runners.

— South Dakota State men’s basketball host Peru State on Monday at 7 pm. The Jacks are 2-2 on the season coming off an 83-69 loss at Oregon on Wednesday.

— South Dakota State volleyball ends the regular season hosting North Dakota on Tuesday at 7 pm. The Jacks are 21-3 overall on the season, 15-0 in the Summit League and have already clinched the No. 1 seed heading into the Summit League Tournament.

SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD football pulled off a 53-51 five-overtime victory at No. 21 Southern Illinois on Saturday, led by quarterback Aidan Bouman’s five touchdown passes and wide receiver Larenzo Fenner’s career-best three TD catches. Carson Fletcher also had a career day with 100 yards rushing on 19 carries. The Coyotes finish the regular season 8-4 and await their FCS Playoff fate next Sunday.

— USD women’s basketball pulled off its second straight last-second win, beating Idaho State 64-63 on Sunday. With just 2.7 seconds left, Angelina Robles hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to seal the victory. Robles led the Coyotes with 14 points, while Jenna Hopp scored a career-high 13. USD, 5-0 on the season, hosts Valparaiso on Friday at 7 p.m.

— USD men’s basketball closed out an 83-78 home win over Western Michigan on Sunday with an 11-0 run in the final four minutes. Freshman Uzziah Buntyn had a career-high 19 points, including five three-pointers. Isaac Bruns added 16 points. USD improves to 3-2 on the season and will hit the road Thursday to face Missouri at 7 pm.

— USD volleyball won at Oral Roberts on Saturday 3-2. The Coyotes were led by their dominant middles — Morgan Bode with 13 kills and Amanda Loschen adding 11 kills and eight blocks. USD improved to 19-9 on the season and 11-4 in Summit League play. The Coyotes return home Tuesday to face North Dakota State in their final match of the regular season.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
— Brandon Valley captured the Class 11AAA state title Saturday, edging Sioux Falls Lincoln 34-27. Senior running back Levi Veskrna had 39 carries for 260 yards and three touchdowns, earning Joe Robbie MVP and Outstanding Back honors. Junior QB Briggs Knutson sealed the win with a late touchdown and two-point conversion. Lincoln’s Brody Schafer threw for 244 yards and ran for 138 in the loss.

— Sioux Falls Christian rallied from a 17-0 first-quarter deficit to defeat Lennox 28-24 Saturday at the DakotaDome, capturing their first-ever Class 11A state title. Sioux Falls Christian finished the season undefeated at 12-0.

— Pierre captured the Class 11AA state title with a 56-35 victory over Yankton on Friday night. Junior RB Porter Hunsley rushed for 165 yards and four touchdowns, adding a receiving score, and earning Joe Robbie MVP and Outstanding Back honors. Quarterback Jerren Deal threw a 51-yard Hail Mary to tight end Cooper Terwilliger as the first half expired, breaking a 28-28 tie. Yankton’s Tate Beste threw for 261 yards with two touchdowns in the loss.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— Georgia has moved up to No. 4 in The Associated Press top 25 poll, Oklahoma is back in the top 10 and North Texas is ranked for the first time since 1959. Ohio State, Indiana, and Texas A&M remain the top three teams. Georgia’s rise follows a win over Texas, while Ole Miss is back in the top five. Oklahoma climbed to No. 8 after defeating Alabama. North Texas, now No. 22, is having its best start since 1959. No. 14 Miami is now the highest-ranked ACC team. The College Football Playoff rankings will be released tomorrow night.

NBA
— Utah’s Keyonte George made 3-pointer with 2 seconds remaining in the second overtime, while Lauri Markkanen scored 47 points as the Jazz beat the Chicago Bulls 150-147 in the NBA’s highest-scoring game of the season. George finished with 32 points. Coby White scored 27 points and Josh Giddey had 26 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists for the Bulls, who have lost five straight.

MLB
— First baseman Josh Naylor and the Seattle Mariners are finalizing a five-year contract, reportedly worth around $100 million. In 54 games with the Mariners, Naylor hit .299 with nine home runs, 33 RBIs and 19 stolen bases after being traded from Arizona.

NFL
— The Chicago Bears defeated the Minnesota Vikings 19–17, winning on a walk-off 48-yard field goal by Cairo Santos. The kick was set up by a 56-yard kickoff return from Devin Duvernay, just seconds after Minnesota took the lead on a late J.J. McCarthy touchdown pass. The Bears improve to 7–3; the Vikings fall to 4–6. Minnesota will be at Green Bay on Sunday at Noon.

— The Denver Broncos have extended their winning streak to eight games with a 22-19 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Wil Lutz kicked a 35-yard field goal as time expired for Denver. It was his fifth field goal of the game. The Broncos improved to 9-2 and hold a two-game lead over the L.A. Chargers in the AFC West and a 3 ½ game lead over Kansas City with six games remaining. Meanwhile, the Chiefs are one game back of Jacksonville for the final Wild Card playoff spot in the AFC with seven games left. Jacksonville holds the tiebreaker with K.C. after being the Chiefs earlier this season.

— Jalen Hurts scored the only touchdown for the Philadelphia Eagles in a 16-9 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday night. The Eagles are the only team in the NFC East with more than three wins and the second one in the conference to eight wins. Their 8-2 record puts them in contention to take the top seed along with the 8-2 L.A. Rams and earn home-field advantage as the Super Bowl champions go for a repeat. The Lions failed to convert on five fourth-down attempts and were 3 of 13 on third down. Jake Elliott kicked three field goals for the Eagles.

— Josh Allen became the first NFL player to have two games with three touchdowns passing and three rushing. He did it Sunday to lead the Buffalo Bills to a 44-32 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Each of Allen’s three touchdown passes went for 25 yards or more. He finished 19 of 30 for 317 yards and two interceptions. The game featured nine lead changes.
