DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan volleyball defeated No. 23 Park University in five-sets on Saturday, winning 3-2 in the NAIA national tournament first round. Karly VanDerWerff led the Tigers with 20 kills, helping DWU take the opening two sets 25-19, 25-22. Park fought back behind Indi Zetic’s 25 kills to even the match, but Dakota Wesleyan dominated the decisive fifth set 15-8. The Tigers improved to 19-11 and advanced in the national tournament along with 23 other teams this week in Sioux City. DWU will face Concordia (Neb.) on Wednesday at 7:30 pm, followed by The Master’s University on Thursday in pool play.
— The No. 16 Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball team dominated Midland on Saturday at the Corn Palace, cruising to a 93-45 victory. The Tigers jumped out to a 37-12 first-quarter lead. Avery Orth led five double-digit scorers with a career-high 20 points off the bench, while Taliyah Hayes had 14 points. The Tigers improve to 4-2 overall and head on the road at Briar Cliff on Tuesday at 6 pm.
— Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball sealed their first home GPAC win of the season on Saturday with an 86-73 comeback over Midland. Trailing late, the Tigers closed with an 18-8 run to pull away, led by 19 points each from Steele Morgan and Easton Neuendorf, who also added 12 assists. Dakota Wesleyan’s defense forced 15 turnovers and held Midland to just 33 second-half points. The Tigers improve to 5-3 overall and hit the road Tuesday for a matchup at Briar Cliff at 7:45 pm.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State football will host New Hampshire in the first round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday at noon at Dykhouse Stadium, marking the Jackrabbits’ 14th straight postseason appearance. Both teams enter at 8-4, with SDSU holding the No. 14 seed as an at-large selection from the Missouri Valley Football Conference. New Hampshire also earned an at-large bid from the CAA. The winner advances to face No. 3 seed Montana on Dec. 6.
— South Dakota State football saved their season with a 34-31 overtime win at North Dakota on Saturday. Grahm Goering caught the game-winning 23-yard touchdown pass in OT from redshirt freshman QB Jack Henry, ending SDSU’s four-game losing streak. The Jackrabbits rallied from a 20-7 deficit late in the third quarter, fueled by key runs from Josiah Johnson and Julius Loughridge’s 112 yards rushing.
— South Dakota State placed six players on the Summit League’s year-end volleyball awards list, highlighted by junior outside hitter Sylvie Zgonc repeating as Player of the Year and Dan Georgalas earning his second straight Coach of the Year honor. Zgonc led the conference in kills and points becoming just the fourth player in conference history to win back-to-back Player of the Year awards. Madison Burr, Rylee Martin and Sydni Schetnan joined her on the First Team, while freshman Hannah Klein earned All-Freshman recognition.
— South Dakota State men’s basketball dominated from start to finish in a 105-58 rout of Georgia State on Friday. The Jackrabbits surged ahead 24-4 midway through the first half, and held a 53-19 lead at the halftime. SDSU shot 61% from the field. Matthew Mors led five Jackrabbits in double figures with 18 points, while Damon Wilkinson added a career-high 17 and seven rebounds. SDSU heads to Mexico for the Cancun Challenge against Utah Valley on Tuesday at 5 pm.
— South Dakota State women’s basketball, 5-0 on the season, will spend the week at the Cancun Challenge in Mexico when they face No. 12 North Carolina on Thursday at 10 am, followed by Columbia on Friday at 12:30 pm and Kansas State next Saturday at 10 am.
— No. 17 South Dakota State wrestling will be at No. 9 Minnesota on Tuesday at 7 pm.
SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD football earned the No. 11 seed in the FCS playoffs and will host Drake in a first-round game on Saturday at noon in the DakotaDome. The Coyotes, 8-4 and second in the MVFC, secured their fifth playoff berth and third straight appearance, and will host a postseason game for the fourth time.
— USD men’s basketball improved to 4-1 on the season with an 82-81 win on Sunday vs. South Carolina State. Jordan Crawford had a game-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting. USD takes on Air Force on Saturday at 3 pm in Rapid City.
— USD women’s basketball rolled past Valparaiso 85–44 on Friday to reach 6-0 for the first time in its Division I era. The Coyotes opened on a 13-0 run and led 23-5 after one quarter. Patience Williams had 13 points and 16 rebounds, while Elise Turrubiates added 13 points and 10 boards for her second straight double-double. USD hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday at 7 pm.
— USD volleyball’s Kamryn Farris was named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season and was joined on the All-Summit League First team by Lauren Medeck. A trio of Coyotes were named to the All-Summit League Second Team in Avery Van Hook, Morgan Bode and Amanda Loschen, while Ava Ball earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.
NFL
— Emanuel Wilson rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns in his first NFL start, leading the Green Bay Packers to a 23–6 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The Packers’ defense forced three turnovers, had five sacks and held Minnesota to just 4 net yards in the second half. Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy finished with 87 yards and two interceptions. Minnesota managed only two long field goals from Will Reichard. Green Bay improved to 7-3-1 and remained perfect in divisional play, while the Vikings fell to 4-7, losing five of their last six games. Minnesota will be at Seattle on Sunday at 3 pm, while the Packers take on the Lions in Detroit for Thanksgiving at Noon.
— Brandon Aubrey kicked a 42-yard field goal as time expired after Dak Prescott rallied Dallas from a 21-point deficit as the Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21.
— The Los Angeles Rams scored 31 points in the first half and moved into sole possession of the NFC lead with a 34-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Davante Adams caught two of Matthew Stafford’s three touchdown passes. Stafford went 25 of 35 for 273 yards in his eighth consecutive interception-free game.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— Oregon has returned to the top five in The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll. Ohio State, Indiana, and Texas A&M remain the top three teams for a sixth straight week with Georgia at No. 4. Oregon jumped to No. 5 after a 15-point victory over Southern California. Mississippi follows at No. 6. Miami moved up to No. 13 to lead five ACC teams in the rankings. Ohio State holds the No. 1 spot for a 13th straight week.
— Florida State is keeping football coach Mike Norvell for at least another season. With support from school administrators, Norvell has pledged to make “fundamental changes” to meet the program’s championship standard. Florida State (5-6) has lost 13 of its last 16 ACC conference games, including a 21-11 loss at N.C. State on Friday that dropped Norvell’s record to 7-17 since winning the ACC in 2023.
NBA
— Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups is set to appear in a New York court on charges he profited from rigged poker games involving several Mafia figures. Billups will be arraigned in Brooklyn federal court on Monday. Billups previously appeared before in an Oregon federal court when prosecutors announced the indictment on Oct. 23.
— Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 37 points in three quarters as the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Portland Trail Blazers 122-95 to avenge their only loss of the season. OKC improved to 17-1 on the season.
