
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — No. 24 Dakota Wesleyan Volleyball squared off against the RV Morningside Mustangs in a key GPAC matchup.
While Morningside would jump out to an initial advantage in the first set, Dakota Wesleyan would swing momentum back in its favor thanks to the offensive prowess of Evy Knoblock, who totaled 16 kills, and Lily Ranschau, who contributed 11. At the net, Emily Dale led the Tigers with four blocks along with Madisyn Grimsrud, who assisted with three. A late scoring run in the would secure a win for DWU in the first set, 25-22. The second set saw both teams trade leads down the stretch, but a kill from Ranschau gave the Tigers a 2-0 match lead, winning the frame 25-23.
Morningside would find more footing in the third set with the late scoring effort favoring the Mustangs, unlike it had in the previous two frames. Even though the Tigers lost the third set 25-22, the team still had athletes contributing. Kayleigh Hybertson recorded 47 assists as the team’s main setter, and on the defensive side, Elizabeth Tyler led the team with 20 digs in total, while Hybertson and Presly Pastian recorded 14 and 13 digs, respectively. The team effort carried them through the fourth and final set, which saw an early Tiger lead turn into a 25-20 victory.
Following the 3-1 win, Dakota Wesleyan Volleyball moves to 9-6 on the season and 3-2 in GPAC play.
DWU Volleyball will be back in action against the Midland Warriors on Saturday, September 27th, at 5:00 PM.
