Palace City Post 18 begins the Class A Legion Baseball regional playoffs Wednesday night with a best-of-three series against No. 6 seed Rapid City Post 320.
The 11 seed Palace City will try to reverse its fortunes after dropping two close games to Post 320 earlier this season, 5-4 and 10-8, on June 20. Game 1 is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Game 2 at 4 p.m. Thursday. If necessary, a decisive Game 3 will be played Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
The winner advances to the eight-team Class A State Tournament, while top-seed host Rapid City Post 22 has already secured an automatic berth.
Palace City enters the series led offensively by Kaiden Allen (.360, 28 RBIs), Carter McCormick (.345), Ethan Hegg (.308) and Ian Weber (.306).
The first meeting between the teams featured Post 320 erasing a pair of Palace City leads in the doubleheader, including a six-run fifth inning in the second game that proved to be the difference.
Post 18 will look for cleaner defense and timely pitching as it attempts to pull off the upset and earn a trip to the state tournament.
