The Parkston Mudcats and Parkston Rays both earned victories Sunday to set up an all-Parkston semifinal in the District 5B Amateur Baseball Tournament at Platte.
The Mudcats rallied for a 10-8 victory over Mt. Vernon after play resumed from a rain suspension Saturday night. Mt. Vernon carried a 5-3 lead into Sunday’s completion, but the Mudcats responded with a comeback to advance.
The Rays also moved into the semifinals with a 7-4 win over Dimock/Emery. Jake Helleloid turned in a dominant performance on the mound, pitching eight innings while allowing just two unearned runs and striking out nine.
District 5B semifinal action continues Monday with Alexandria facing Platte at 6 p.m., followed by the Parkston Mudcats taking on the Parkston Rays at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday’s elimination games feature Winner/Colome against Corsica at 6 p.m. and Dimock/Emery meeting Mt. Vernon at 8:30 p.m.
In District 3B at Chamberlain, Kimball/White Lake advanced to the championship game with a 12-2 victory over Burke. Kimball/White Lake broke the game open with a seven-run third inning. Ethan Price struck out 12 batters over seven innings, while Trent Wookey collected three hits and scored three runs.
Four Corners also advanced with a 7-5 win over Winner.
Wessington Springs stayed alive with a dramatic 10-9 victory over Plankinton. Cade Mohling delivered a walk-off single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring Jonathan Peterson with the winning run. Layne Cotton led the offense with four hits and five RBIs as Wessington Springs eliminated the Bankers.
District 3B resumes Monday with Wessington Springs facing Burke in an elimination game at 7:30 p.m. The winner advances to face Colome at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, while Kimball/White Lake takes on Four Corners in the district championship game at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
In District 4B at Humboldt, Hartford/Humboldt’s two teams both advanced. The Wood Ducks defeated Flandreau Blue Teal 12-4, while the Gamecocks rolled past Baltic 12-2 in seven innings. Dell Rapids PBR had already secured its semifinal berth with a 14-2 victory over Salem in a game postponed from Saturday.
District 4B semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday, with Dell Rapids PBR facing Canova at 6 p.m. and the Dell Rapids Mudcats meeting Madison at 8:30 p.m.
In District 6B at Menno, Lesterville advanced with an 8-5 win over Freeman. Freeman will face Irene in an elimination game Monday at 7:30 p.m., while Lesterville takes on Tabor in a semifinal Tuesday.
