Record-Breaking Win for Women’s Soccer Headlined by Seven-Goal Performance From Petrucci

MITCHELL, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan Women’s Soccer hosted the Waldorf Warriors in a midweek GPAC matchup at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.

DWU Women’s Soccer continued their season Wednesday evening with a home GPAC contest against Waldorf. The Tigers started the game on the front foot and never looked back, scoring their first goal after 10 minutes thanks to Hannah Petrucci. This would be a half to remember for Petrucci and DWU, as their offensive output only ramped up as the half went on. The record for most number of goals scored in a single game by one person for DWU was six heading into the day, and Petrucci incredibly tied that record in the first half, totaling six goals. She was assisted on four of those goals by Emma Delys, Mikayla Adams, Noélie Prat, and Rayna Goehring, with the other two goals being unassisted.

Delys and Aliana Nolasco both tacked on a goal apiece before the end of the first half, with those goals assisted by Morgan McQuarters and Kiley Mellum, respectively. The eight goals in 45 minutes from the Tigers were just one off the program record for goals in a contest, and DWU would stay at a record-breaking pace out of the half.

DWU continued their onslaught in the second half, feeding Petrucci to continue her historic day. After being on the attack for a majority of the second half, they were able to find the ninth goal of the contest on an excellent shot by Delys, which was followed up just a few minutes later by Prat on an unassisted strike. Petrucci gave the Tigers their eleventh goal on the night, resulting in Petrucci in turn recording a program-record seven individual goals on the day, along with an also-record 15 points, both records that have stood since 2014. In addition, her 13 shots-on-goal broke the previous single-game record of nine set back in 2005.

Waldorf would get on the scoresheet before the game ended, but the full 90 minutes were controlled and dominated by DWU, with the final score showing an 11-1 win. As a team, the Tigers were on the attack all night long, totaling 37 shots compared to the Warriors’ four, and also recording 26 total shots-on-goal, good for another single-game program record. DWU’s 11 goals broke the single-game team scoring record that had stood since the 2006 season.

DWU Women’s Soccer is back in action on Saturday, October 17th, with another home contest against Midland for the team’s senior day.
