— Baseball players are proposing sweeping changes in upcoming labor talks with Major League Baseball, including expanded free agency and salary arbitration rights and a major increase in pay. The union is calling for nearly doubling the league minimum salary to $1.5 million next season and raising the luxury tax threshold to $300 million, while also expanding revenue sharing and adding penalties for teams that fail to meet spending floors. The proposals were presented Wednesday in Manhattan ahead of expected counterproposals from MLB, which is anticipated to push for a salary cap. WORLD CUP
— New York and New Jersey officials have opened an investigation into FIFA over its World Cup ticketing practices, as fans face sharply rising prices for the 2026 tournament. The state attorneys general issued subpoenas to FIFA, examining whether “variable pricing” and other sales tactics violated consumer protection laws. Officials are focusing on matches at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, including concerns that ticket prices have surged dramatically and seating arrangements may have been changed in ways that misled buyers. Some tickets for high-profile matches, including the final, are reportedly approaching tens of thousands of dollars, prompting backlash from fans and elected officials. The investigation comes just weeks before the World Cup begins on June 11.
