PALACE CITY LEGION BASEBALL
— Palace City Post 18 Legion Baseball, 15-11 on the season, will be at Pierre on Tuesday at 4 pm before returning home to face Sioux Falls Post 15 West on Wednesday at 5 pm. Palace City is 8-7 on the season vs. Class A competition, currently 10th out of 15 teams.
— Palace City Post 18 Junior Legion will return to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Huron starting at 5 p.m.
— Palace City 14-and-under baseball will be at Brookings for a noon doubleheader on Wednesday.
— Palace City 13-and-under baseball visits Brookings Tuesday for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
SDGA JUNIOR GOLF TOUR
— The next SDGA Junior Tour Southeast Region stop is Wednesday, July 1, at Two Rivers Golf Course in Dakota Dunes. Parkston’s Landon Weber won the 16-18 boys division at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton on Thursday with a 1-under 71.
MINNESOTA TWINS
— Royce Lewis and Victor Caratini hit back-to-back homers, while Zebby Matthews pitched seven innings as the Minnesota Twins held off a late rally by the Houston Astros for a 5-4 victory. Josh Bell hit a two-run HR for the Twins, who led 5-1 before Houston rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Matthews limited the Astros to one run and four hits while striking out seven. Joe Ryan starts for the Twins on Tuesday night in game two of the three game series at Houston at 7:10 pm.

— The Portland Trail Blazers are acquiring two-time All-Star Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies. Portland is sending forwards Jerami Grant and Kris Murray to Memphis in the deal. Morant, a former Rookie of the Year, has averaged 22 points in his career but has been limited by injuries and suspensions in recent seasons.
— The Golden State Warriors are bringing back veteran center Kristaps Porzingis on a two-year, $40 million contract. Porzingis is extending his current contract, allowing him to negotiate and agree with the Warriors before hitting the open market on Tuesday afternoon. The Porzingis signing makes the math trickier for the Warriors to clear enough space to offer unrestricted free agent LeBron James the full $15 million midlevel exception, but there remain paths for them to clear enough financial room, particularly given Draymond Green’s decision to decline his $27 million player option.
— NBA free agency opens Tuesday, and once again all eyes are on LeBron James. The 40-year-old star is expected to return for a record 24th season, but his future destination remains unclear. James could stay with the Los Angeles Lakers, consider a return to Cleveland or Miami, or explore other options as teams prepare to pitch championship runs. Around the league, major moves are already shaping the offseason, including blockbuster trades and big extensions for stars like Trae Young and Austin Reaves. The Miami Heat are also in position for a major roster shakeup after a reported trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo. The free agency window opens at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
— Former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis are among six people charged in a federal gambling investigation tied to alleged game-fixing and prop bet manipulation, according to an indictment unsealed Monday in Brooklyn. Prosecutors say Beasley, while with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024, allegedly altered parts of his performance to influence wagers, including prop bets, and shared inside information with co-conspirators. Authorities claim hundreds of thousands of dollars were wagered through online sportsbooks, with Beasley allegedly receiving payments and help reducing debts. The NBA says it is cooperating with the investigation.

— Viktor Hovland won the Travelers Championship on Monday, defeating world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff. Hovland secured the victory by sinking a 7-foot birdie putt, putting the pressure on Scheffler, who subsequently missed a 4-foot birdie attempt. Both players finished regulation tied at 21-under. Scheffler had forced the Monday playoff late Sunday evening, making an 8-foot par putt in near-darkness following a 90-minute weather delay.

— The Detroit Lions on Monday released cornerback Terrion Arnold, only days after his arrest over allegations that he orchestrated the abduction and beating of three men who prosecutors believe he wrongly suspected of having stolen luxury goods and $100,000 in cash from him. Arnold had two years left on his four-year rookie contract, worth $14 million. The announcement came the same day that a Florida judge set Arnold’s bail at $1 million. Prosecutors say the three victims, including a man who worked as a driver for Arnold, were robbed while being held at gunpoint in a Tampa apartment in February.
— Chris Johnson, one of nine players in NFL history to rush for more than 2,000 yards, revealed in a television interview aired Monday that he has ALS. Johnson, 40, spent 10 seasons in the league and last played in 2017 for the Arizona Cardinals. He said on ABC’s “ Good Morning America ” that he was diagnosed with the fatal nervous system disease last year. Johnson, a first-round draft pick out of East Carolina in 2008, rushed for nearly 8,000 yards over six seasons with the Tennessee Titans, including 2,006 yards in 2009.
— The Minnesota Vikings have completed their football operations overhaul, hiring Trent Kirchner and Andrew Healy as assistant general managers under new GM Nolan Teasley. The team announced that Kirchner, a longtime Seattle Seahawks executive and Minnesota native, will lead scouting operations. Healy joins after 10 seasons with the Cleveland Browns and will head the Vikings’ analytics and research departments.

— Seiya Suzuki hit a game-ending single off Mason Miller in the ninth inning as the Chicago Cubs beat the San Diego Padres 3-2. It was Chicago’s major league-leading 10th walk-off win this season.
— Shohei Ohtani hit a three-run homer as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Athletics 9-4. Max Muncy and Andy Pages also homered as Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts earned his 999th career victory.
— Texas rookie Cameron Cauley tripled in the seventh inning for his first hit in his major league debut before scoring the go-ahead run to help the Rangers beat the Cleveland Indians 6-3 for their fifth straight victory.
— Casey Mize matched a career high with 10 strikeouts over seven innings as the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees in a 7-3. The only baserunner Mize allowed came on a leadoff double in the third.
