NFL
— Super Bowl MVP RB Kenneth Walker III is joining Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City on a three-year, $45 million deal. In Miami, Malik Willis will reset the quarterback position after the Dolphins released Tua Tagovailoa, who later signed a one-year deal with Atlanta. Receiver Mike Evans is headed to San Francisco after 12 seasons in Tampa Bay. Other big moves include pass rusher Jaelan Phillips headed to Carolina on a $120 million deal.
— The Kansas City Chiefs and four-time All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce are nearing a deal to bring him back for a 14th NFL season. The 36-year-old Kelce had contemplated retirement but is returning to play alongside Patrick Mahomes after the Chiefs’ 6-11 season. Last year, he caught 76 passes for 851 yards and five touchdowns. Kelce has 1,080 career catches for 13,002 yards and 82 touchdowns, plus three Super Bowl rings.
— The Miami Dolphins are moving on from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, but his contract leaves a record $99 million dead cap hit over the next two seasons. Tagovailoa signed a $212 million extension less than two years ago and will now join the Atlanta Falcons on a one-year deal. The Dolphins are spreading the charge across 2026 and 2027, making it the largest dead money hit in NFL history, surpassing Denver’s $85 million charge for Russell Wilson. Dead cap hits occur when teams owe guaranteed money to players no longer on the roster.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
— One of the so-called fixers in a sprawling betting scheme to cash in on big bets on rigged NCAA basketball games has pleaded guilty. The federal prosecutors’ office in Philadelphia says Jalen Smith appeared Monday in federal court and pleaded guilty to wire fraud and bribery charges. Prosecutors say the Charlotte, North Carolina, man trained local basketball players and used those connections to recruit players in the scheme. Prosecutors say Smith helped fix games in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. They say he placed bets and recruited players with the promise of a big payment in exchange for purposefully underperforming during a game.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— Former Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore has pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors in a criminal case that arose immediately after he was fired for having an inappropriate relationship with his executive assistant. The deal was struck Friday, the same day that a judge planned to hear a challenge to Moore’s arrest in December on three charges, including felony home invasion. Those charges were dropped in exchange for Moore pleading no contest to trespassing and malicious use of a telecom device.
NBA
— Shai Gilgeous-Alexander hit a step-back 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds left on a night he matched Wilt Chamberlain’s record for consecutive 20-point games, as Oklahoma City beat the Denver Nuggets 129-126. Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 35 points and a career-high 15 assists, becoming the second player in NBA history to have those totals and zero turnovers. He also had nine rebounds. Gilgeous-Alexander reached the 20-point mark for the 126th straight game, equaling Chamberlain’s streak from 1961-63. Nikola Jokic had 32 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists. It was his 24th triple-double of the season and the 188th of his career.
— James Harden scored 21 points to become the ninth player in NBA history with more than 29,000 career points as the Cleveland Cavaliers cruised to a 115-101 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.
— Kawhi Leonard scored 29 points, while Bennedict Mathurin added 28 points, as the Los Angeles Clippers beat the New York Knicks 126-118 to climb back to .500 for the first time since early November.

Paul Skenes struck out seven and allowed just one hit over four innings, while Mexico’s Jarren Duran hit two home runs in the loss. The U.S. improved to 3-0 in group play and faces Italy next, needing a win to secure a quarterfinal spot.

South Korea 7, Australia 2
South Korea advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2009 with a 7-2 win over Australia in Tokyo. South Korea won by the margin needed to advance on a tiebreaker.

MLB
— Detroit Tigers ace and two-time AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal will make only one start for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Skubal cited his spring training schedule and upcoming free-agent contract as reasons for stepping back. Skubal hopes to pitch in future international events, including the 2028 Olympics.
— The Philadelphia Phillies have locked up left-handed pitcher Jesús Luzardo with a five-year, $135 million extension starting in 2027. Luzardo went 15-7 with a 3.92 ERA and 212 strikeouts in his first season with the Phillies after being acquired from Miami, helping them win their second straight NL East title.
