— South Dakota State volleyball, 4-5 on the season, will compete at the South Dakota Lottery College Volleyball Classic, where they will face Washington and No. 13 Minnesota.
— South Dakota State women’s soccer, 5-2-1 on the season open Summit League play Sept. 24 at USD.
SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD football, 3-0 on the season, travels to Boise State on Saturday. Kickoff is at 9 p.m. Central on CBS Sports Network.
— USD volleyball competes at the South Dakota Lottery College Volleyball Classic this week. USD opens against No. 13 Minnesota on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
MINNESOTA TWINS
— Aaron Judge hit his first home run since May 24 as the New York Yankees clinched their record 61st postseason berth and ninth in 10 years with an 8-3 win against the Minnesota Twins. Judge, who returned last week after missing more than three months because of a fractured rib, hit a three-run homer off A.J. Minter in the six-run eighth to give the Yankees a 7-2 lead. Twins starter Dean Kramer got a no-decision, allowing one runs on two hits over 5 2/3 innings. Game two of the three-game series is Tuesday at 6:40 pm.
MINNESOTA VIKINGS
The Minnesota Vikings are not sure if quarterback Kyler Murray will be ready to play Sunday against Chicago after suffering a concussion in the season opener. Murray was hit in the head by Green Bay safety Javon Bullard and left the game after 11 plays. Coach Kevin O’Connell says Murray is feeling pretty good but remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol. Carson Wentz replaced Murray and is expected to start Sunday against the Bears.
NFL
— The Kansas City Chiefs opened the season with a 31-10 win over the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football. Kenneth Walker III rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns in his Chiefs debut, including a 60-yard score, while Patrick Mahomes threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing score. Denver managed just 176 yards of offense. Bo Nix threw for 131 yards with an interception and lost fumble.
NBA
— Kawhi Leonard is officially returning to the Toronto Raptors after the NBA approved a long-delayed trade with the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday. Leonard returns to Toronto in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a pick swap. Leonard led the Raptors to their only NBA championship in 2019. The trade had been delayed while the NBA investigated the Clippers over salary-cap violations involving Leonard’s compensation. The league suspended Clippers owner Steve Ballmer for one year, fined the team $30 million and took away five first-round picks. Leonard was fined $700,000 but was not suspended. The 35-year-old Leonard averaged a career-best 27.9 points in 65 games for the Clippers last season.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— The bipartisan Protect College Sports Act is getting renewed attention in Congress as college football season gets underway. The bill would establish rules for name, image and likeness payments and other areas of college athletics. The Senate could vote this week or next. The bill faces opposition from Democrats and the Congressional Black Caucus, who argue it could limit athletes’ compensation and give the NCAA too much protection. The legislation would need 60 votes to advance in the Senate.

— Pete Crow-Armstrong hit his 42nd homer to match the Cubs record for a left-handed batter and finished with four hits and four RBIs to lead Chicago past the Atlanta Braves 7-3.
— The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched their 14th consecutive playoff berth with a 4-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds behind Tarik Skubal’s seven shutout innings. Los Angeles tied the record set by Atlanta from 1991 through 2005.
— Tristan Peters fouled off 12 pitches in an 18-pitch plate appearance that keyed Chicago’s six-run outburst in the sixth inning as the White Sox beat the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 to stay atop the AL Central. The White Sox pushed their lead over the Guardians to 1 ½ games. Meanwhile, Cleveland holds a one game lead over Toronto and a 1 ½ game lead over Texas for the final AL Wild Card spot.
— Zach McKinstry scored the winning run on a missed-catch error in the ninth inning as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5. Blue Jays starter José Soriano threw 6 1/3 innings, working a perfect game through five innings, before the Tigers scored four runs off five hits in the seventh.
— Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. homered, helping the San Diego Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 8-7 to match their longest winning streak this season at eight games. San Diego stayed 2 ½ games ahead of Arizona for the final National League wild card and clinched a fifth straight winning season for the first time in team history.
— Corbin Carroll hit a game winning, two-run homer with one out in the ninth inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied from a late three-run deficit to beat the Miami Marlins 8-7.
— Pete Alonso went hitless in his return to Citi Field, while Gunnar Henderson launched a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning that lifted the Baltimore Orioles to a 2-1 win over the New York Mets.
— Reid Detmers struck out eight over six innings, while Jose Siri and Denzer Guzman each drove in two runs to help the Los Angeles Angels beat the Seattle Mariners 6-4.
— Quinn Mathews took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and Alec Burleson had an RBI single to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
