MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell Kernels softball lost at home to O’Gorman 16–6 on Tuesday, scoring eight runs in the first three innings. Mitchell managed six hits and scored in three different innings, with RBIs from Malia Reitzel, Mallory Miedema, and Iris Ackman. Mitchell drops to 1–4 and plays at Brandon Valley on Thursday at 6 pm.

— Mitchell Kernels boys tennis split a home triangular Tuesday at Hitchcock Park, falling 9–0 to Sioux Falls Lincoln before sweeping Sioux Falls Jefferson 9–0 win. Mitchell responded in the second dual, sweeping Jefferson without losing a match. The Kernels moved to 8–3 on the season and heads to the Rapid City Invitational this weekend, starting on Thursday.

— Mitchell senior Maddie Childs shot under par for the first time this season, finishing second overall at the Huron Quadrangular on Tuesday at Broadland Creek Golf Course. Childs finished with a 1-under 71, finishing four shots behind Aberdeen Central’s Olivia Braun, who won the event. Childs opened with two early birdies and closed with 11 straight pars. Mitchell placed second as a team with a 310. Aberdeen Central won the team title. Mitchell is in a quadrangular on Thursday in Yankton against Harrisburg and Sioux Falls Washington at Fox Run Golf Course.

— Mitchell baseball was swept in a doubleheader Tuesday in Sioux Falls, falling to Sioux Falls Jefferson 12-3 and 12-1. In game one, Jefferson broke things open with an eight-run third inning. In game two, Mitchell managed just two hits. Mitchell, 8-4 on the season, returns home to host Rapid City Stevens for a Friday doubleheader at 5 pm. The KORN pregame show starts at 4:45 pm.

— Mitchell track and field is back in action on Friday at the Pierre Invitational at 11 am.

DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan senior Peyton Bettcher led the Tigers at the GPAC men’s golf championship on Tuesday at the Dakota Dunes Country Club, finishing third overall. Bettcher shot a 5-over 221 over three rounds, highlighted by a final-round 73. Hastings’ Max Nielsen won the individual title at 1-over par. As a team, DWU finished sixth with a 935 total, while Hastings claimed the team championship. Dakota Wesleyan’s Dakota Munger placed 21st, with Ben Wilber and Jack Olson also finishing inside the top 40. The tournament wrapped up the DWU men’s golf season.

— Dakota Wesleyan softball will be at Dordt on Thursday for a doubleheader at 4 pm. The Tigers are 16-2 in the GPAC holding a two-game lead over Midland and Morningside with four regular season games remaining.

— Dakota Wesleyan baseball on Sunday will be at Mt. Marty on Friday for a doubleheader at 5 pm. The Tigers are in a three-way tie with Hastings and Mt. Marty for seventh place in the GPAC.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State softball will face St. Thomas in a three-game series starting on Friday at 4 pm.

— South Dakota State baseball host Briar Cliff in a nonconference game on Wednesday at 3 pm.

SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD softball picked up a 6-5 walk-off win vs. Drake on Tuesday. Autumn Iversen capped a 4-of-5 day with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Coyotes start a three-game series at Kansas City on Friday at 5 pm.

MINNESOTA TWINS
— Mets closer Devin Williams allowed a tiebreaking RBI single to Luke Keaschall in the ninth inning as New York lost its 12th straight game, losing 5-3 to the Minnesota Twins. The Mets’ losing streak is their longest since they dropped 12 straight in 2002. Matt Wallner followed Keaschall by drawing a bases-loaded walk off Williams, who didn’t retire any of the five batters he faced. The Mets were in position to end their streak when Nolan McLean retired the first 15 Twins batters and Francisco Lindor hit a three-run homer in the third inning. Minnesota responded with a Byron Buxton three-run HR, while Keaschall tied the game with an RBI single in the seventh. Game two of the three game series is tonight at 6:10 pm.

NBA
— LeBron James had 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists as the short-handed Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Houston Rockets for a 101-94 victory to take a 2-0 lead in their first-round playoff series. Marcus Smart had 25 points with five 3-pointers and seven assists for the Lakers, who have twice overcome the absences of Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Game 3 is Friday in Houston.

— Scoot Henderson scored 31 points as the Portland Trail Blazers took advantage after an injury to Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, rallying for a 106-103 victory over San Antonio to even their Western Conference playoff series at one game apiece. Wembanyama was diagnosed with a concussion after he tumbled face-first when he was fouled by Jrue Holiday and his jaw slammed into the floor. He did not return after the injury in the second quarter and entered the NBA’s concussion protocol, which raises the possibility that Wembanyama could miss multiple games.

— 76ers rookie V.J. Edgecombe had 30 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyrese Maxey scored 29 points and added nine assists as Philadelphia beat the Boston Celtics 111-97 to tie their playoff series at one game apiece. Edgecombe connected on six of the 76ers’ 19 3-pointers, as Philadelphia bounced back after getting blown out by 32 points in Game 1. The series moves to Philadelphia for Game 3 on Friday.

— Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan has resigned after six seasons, opting to step aside rather than work with a new front office, the team announced Tuesday. President and CEO Michael Reinsdorf made it clear after firing the executive vice president of basketball operations and general manager Marc Eversley near the end of the season, that he wanted Donovan to remain on the job. The 60-year-old Donovan led Chicago to the playoffs just once in 2022, while the Bulls lost in the play-in tournament the next three years.

WORLD CUP
— FIFA is putting more World Cup tickets on sale after angering some fans by adding new, more expensive categories. Soccer’s governing body announced Tuesday it will make more tickets available at 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday for all 104 games in Categories 1, 2 and 3 plus the new “front category” pricing it added this month. The new category sparked online complaints from fans who said they thought the better seats in the categories they had bought tickets for were withheld and they were assigned less favorable locations. FIFA in December put tickets on sale at prices ranging from $140 for Category 3 in the first round to $8,680 for the final, then raised prices to as much as $10,990 when sales reopened on April 1.

MLB
— Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo homer in the second and added a two-run double as the New York Yankees extended their winning streak to four straight with a 4-0 win over the Boston Red Sox.

— Maikel Garcia raced home on a game-ending wild pitch as the Kansas City Royals rallied for a 6-5 win over the Baltimore Orioles, snapping an eight-game losing streak.

— Brice Turang drove in four runs and David Hamilton had four hits as the Milwaukee Brewers routed the Detroit Tigers 12-4. The Brewers put 19 runners on base and scored in double digits for the second time this season. They have won five of six.

— Elly De La Cruz hit two of Cincinnati’s five home runs, while rookie Sal Stewart added three RBIs to reach 24 on the season as the Reds scored the first nine runs to cruise to a 12-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. De La Cruz went 3 for 6 with five RBIs, hit a two-run homer to begin the scoring in the first inning, and he added a solo shot in the ninth for his eighth of the season.

— Shota Imanaga pitched seven innings of three-hit ball as the Chicago Cubs extended their winning streak to seven games with a 7-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

— Cleveland rookie Chase DeLauter hit a bases-loaded triple in the eighth inning as the Guardians rallied for an 8-5 victory over the Houston Astros. Houston’s Jose Altuve became the third player in franchise history to reach 2,000 career games. He’s also the fifth active player in the majors to reach 2,000 games.

— Randy Vásquez threw seven shutout innings to help the San Diego Padres edge the Colorado Rockies 1-0. The win was the Padres’ 14th in their last 16 games.

— Jung Hoo Lee and Rafael Devers each hit RBI singles in the first inning that held up as the San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1. Shohei Ohtani had a seventh-inning single that extended his career-best on-base streak to 53 games.

— Lenyn Sosa had a pinch-hit, two-run double during a three-run eighth inning, reliever Louis Varland bailed out struggling closer Jeff Hoffman by inducing a game-ending double-play grounder, and the Toronto Blue Jays held on for a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

— James Wood homered, while Luis García Jr. had four hits as the Washington Nationals snapped the Atlanta Braves’ six-game winning streak with an 11-4 victory.

— Kumar Rocker allowed one run in six innings leading the Texas Rangers to a 5-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

— Nathan Church hit a two-run homer and Alec Burleson had two RBIs as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Miami Marlins 5-3.

— Rookie Munetaka Murakami homered for the fourth straight game as the Chicago White Sox beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-5. Murakami is now second in the majors with nine HR’s.

— Shea Langeliers hit his eighth homer as the Athletics beat the Seattle Mariners 5-2.
