MLB
— Tony Clark has resigned as head of the Major League Baseball Players Association as a possible salary cap fight looms, a move made during a federal investigation of the union’s finances. Clark’s decision took place during an investigation by the U.S. Attorney in Brooklyn, New York, into a licensing company founded by the union, the NFL Players Association and RedBird Capital Partners in 2019. Deputy executive director Bruce Meyer is set to be the primary negotiator in the upcoming labor talks, as he was in 2021-22.

GOLF
— The immediate future of Tiger Woods is in the boardroom instead of the golf course. Woods still won’t rule out returning to the Masters. All he says is that playing the first major of the year isn’t off the table. But he is coming off a year in which he didn’t compete in a single tournament for the first time in his career. He had disk replacement surgery in October. Most of his time is occupied in the PGA Tour boardroom as head of the committee reshaping the schedule. Also on hold is being Ryder Cup captain.

WNBA
— The WNBA Players’ Association sent a counterproposal to the WNBA on Tuesday for a new collective bargaining agreement that included some concessions on revenue sharing and housing. The union is now asking for an average of 27.5% of the gross revenue , which is revenue before expenses , over the course of the CBA. That would include only 25% in the first year of the new deal. In its previous offer the union had been asking for an average of over 30%.

NFL
— Wide receiver Mike Evans, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ all-time leading scorer, will play a 13th season in 2026 with the destination to be determined. After the 2025 season ended, Evans, who missed 10 games because of a broken collarbone and a hamstring injury, took some time to determine whether he wanted to continue playing football. His agent notified Tampa Bay on Tuesday of Evans’ intention to continue playing. Up until this point, it was not clear whether Evans, 32, would continue to play or possibly retire.

NBA
— Los Angeles Lakers center Deandre Ayton was briefly detained Tuesday while at an airport in the Bahamas on suspicion of being in possession of a “very small amount of marijuana”. Ayton, a native of the Bahamas who has also served as a member of the men’s national team, was detained at the airport in Nassau. The marijuana had been in someone else’s bag and Ayton was quickly released after a brief investigation. As of the most recent CBA agreement, players are no longer tested for marijuana and it has been removed from the banned substance list. But marijuana remains illegal in the Bahamas.

— Former Denver Nuggets head coach Doug Moe has died at the age of 87 after a long battle with cancer. Moe led the Nuggets during the high-scoring 1980s era and became known for his fast-paced motion offense and fiery sideline personality. He finished with a 628–529 record over 15 seasons as an NBA head coach, including stops with the San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers, and was named NBA Coach of the Year in 1988. Moe’s Nuggets teams led the league in scoring for five straight seasons.
