PALACE CITY LEGION BASEBALL
— Brookings swept Palace City Post 18 in a doubleheader Tuesday, winning 5-1 and 10-1. The losses dropped Palace City to 17-17 overall and 10-13 against Class A competition. In the opener, Tyler Christensen drove in Post 18’s only run before Brookings scored five times in the fifth inning. Carter McCormick collected two hits for Palace City. Brookings broke open the second game with a six-run fifth inning. Dawson Adams had two hits for Post 18, while Christensen drove in the lone run and stole two bases. Palace City returns to action Wednesday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Huron.
— Palace City Junior Legion baseball swept Aberdeen on Tuesday, winning 3-2 in a walk-off in the opener, followed by a 5-4 victory in game two. The Junior Legion team improved to 20-14 on the season and will be at Yankton on Wednesday for a 5 pm doubleheader.
— Palace City 14-and-under baseball lost at Aberdeen on Tuesday 7-2 and 7-3. Palace City 14U competes at the Mid Summer Classic Tournament at Harmodon Park in Sioux Falls starting on Thursday vs. Yankton at 5 pm.
— Palace City 13-and-under baseball lost to Yankton on Tuesday 7-6 and 17-8 at Drake Field. Palace City 13U hosts Aberdeen on Wednesday for a 5 pm doubleheader at Cadwell Park.

— USD men’s basketball and Utah Tech will meet at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls on Sunday, November 22. Game time, broadcast information, and ticket sales will be finalized at a later date. The Coyotes will be participating in its 14th game all-time at the Pentagon and first since 2023.
SDGA GOLF
— Mitchell’s Asher Dannenbring recorded a top-10 finish at the South Dakota Golf Association’s Sanford International Series Northeast Region event in Aberdeen. Dannenbring shot rounds of 76 and 77 for a two-day total of 153, good for seventh place after sitting tied for fifth following Monday’s opening round. Sioux Falls’ Drew Velasquez captured the boys title at 147 after firing the tournament’s only under-par round, a 1-under 70 on Tuesday.

— Taj Bradley allowed one run and struck out 10 in seven innings, while Kody Clemens had two hits and an RBI as the Minnesota Twins beat the Cleveland Guardians 3-1. Bradley, who set a career best with 11 strikeouts last week at Houston, registered a career-high 25 swinging strikes. He allowed three hits and walked none. The Twins pulled within three games of first place behind Chicago in the AL Central. Game two of the three game series is Wednesday at 6:40 pm.
— The Minnesota Twins placed Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured list Tuesday after the center fielder aggravated a hip injury that has lingered through much of the season. Buxton, who was voted an American League starter for next week’s All-Star Game, will be sidelined through the break. The 32-year-old Buxton is headed to the IL for the first time this season. Buxton missed five games in May when he originally suffered the right hip impingement. He sat out four more games last week after he tweaked the same spot. He returned to the lineup on Saturday against the Yankees in New York, but left Sunday’s game in the first inning after making an awkward slide while attempting to steal second.

— The U.S. match against Bosnia at the World Cup was viewed by nearly 26.4 million people, making it the most-watched English-language soccer telecast in the country’s history. It also set a Spanish-language record as the most-watched U.S. soccer match, according to Telemundo, which reported an audience of 9.8 million viewers. The U.S. beat Bosnia 2-0 last Wednesday night in the first round of the knockout stage. Viewership for the American’s loss to Belgium on Monday night is expected to eclipse 30 million.

— At Wimbledon, 39-year-old Novak Djokovic advanced to the semifinals after winning the longest quarterfinal match in tournament history. Djokovic outlasted Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in five-sets that lasted 5 hours and 15 minutes. The seven-time champion will next face defending champion Jannik Sinner on Friday. On the women’s side, 22-year-old Coco Gauff rallied past Jessica Pegula to reach her first Wimbledon semifinal. Gauff will face Karolina Muchova for a spot in Saturday’s final.

— New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson has undergone left wrist surgery and is expected to be back on the court before the start of next season. The NBA Finals MVP is expected to resume basketball activities later this summer. Brunson, who is left-handed, led the Knicks to their first championship since 1973, averaging 32 points per game in the finals, including 45 points in the Game 5 clincher.
— Donovan Mitchell has agreed to a four-year, $273 million contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The seven-time All-Star had two seasons remaining on his contract and could have waited to re-sign until next summer. The extension includes a $76 million player option for the 2030-31 season. For now, it is the fourth-biggest contract in terms of total value in NBA history. The 29-year-old Mitchell led the Cavaliers this past season to their first conference final since 2018. He averaged 27.9 points, 5.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds during the regular season.

— Former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, who died by suicide in November 2025 after a high-speed chase with police, had early stage CTE, a brain abnormality linked to repeated head trauma, his family announced Tuesday. The Boston University CTE Center, which investigates the long-term consequences of repetitive brain trauma in athletes and others, analyzed Kneeland’s brain tissue after his death. Researchers determined Kneeland, who was 24, was in stage one of four of CTE.

— Pitchers Paul Skenes, Jacob Misiorowski and Max Meyer have been ruled out of next week’s All-Star Game and were replaced Tuesday by Riley O’Brien of St. Louis, Philadelphia’s Jesus Luzardo and Pittsburgh’s Braxton Ashcraft. Also, Boston first baseman Willson Contreras was selected as a replacement for Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who is opting to rest his ailing back during the break. All three replacement pitchers are All-Stars for the first time.
— Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Ryan O’Hearn made history on Tuesday night, setting a team record by driving in 10 runs on three homers against Atlanta. O’Hearn hit a grand slam off Atlanta starter Hurston Waldrep in the first, added a three-run shot off Waldrep in the third and took Braves reliever Connor Thomas deep with another three-run shot in the sixth. The Pirates won 12-4.
— Tyler Tolbert tied a major league record with hits in 12 consecutive plate appearances, finishing 5-for-6, leading the Kansas City Royals to a 16-12 win over the New York Mets. Batting ninth, Tolbert hit a two-run homer in the second inning and singled in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh. Tolbert’s last three hits were infield hits. He went 5-for-5 on Monday vs. Philadelphia.
— Jacob Misiorowski struck out 11 in seven innings as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader. Joey Ortiz homered and Robert Gasser pitched a career-high 7 2/3 innings as Milwaukee beat St. Louis 10-2 Tuesday complete a doubleheader sweep.
— Hunter Feduccia and Yandy Diaz hit consecutive home runs in the fourth inning, while Ian Seymour struck out 12 Yankees over 5 1/3 innings as the Tampa Bay Rays beat New York 6-4.
— Tarik Skubal struck out nine over five innings and Colt Keith hit a two-run homer to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 6-2 victory over the Athletics.
— Payton Tolle allowed two hits in six shutout innings as the Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox 8-1. Boston has won four in a row and nine of its last 11.
— Matthew Boyd pitched six shutout innings as the Chicago Cubs beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-2. Miguel Amaya scored three times for the Cubs, who have won 11 of 14.
— Zack Wheeler tied a career high with 14 strikeouts, while Kyle Schwarber hit his major league-best 31st home run of the season as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-1.
— Shohei Ohtani hit his 300th career homer but two errors by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the eighth inning led to three runs by the Colorado Rockies, who rallied for a 4-3 victory.
— Jake Cronenworth’s three-run home run off Zac Gallen capped a four-run first inning as the San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 for just their second victory in 11 games.
